Is the country protected by defence force?

Before beginning to write my review on the Indian Army, I went through all the comments written so far about these so-called true sons of the land. But sorry for disappointing all you good people, I don’t agree to anything said about them and so have nothing positive to write about these men in uniform. My comment is no a reverie but something that is based on simple facts.

You all are knowing the kind of work that the army is currently involved in J&K. For quite few years, they have been virtually ruling the state with the might and fright of the gun. A force known for its bravery, loyalty and respect for human rights seems to be bent upon proving itself otherwise. Some say that they have been successful in controlling the terrorism in the state to a certain extent but where is the improvement? I find that all the Kashmiris are just paying a price. Yes in terms of the blood of innocent Kashmiris both young and old, who in the name of being called agents of Pakistan or branded as militants were first picked up from wherever wished and the next day their butchered body was either thrown at doorsteps or like some unfortunate people they still remained untraced. This was not all that happened, a no. of women were even gang raped. Some alone and some in front of their fathers, husbands or at worst times even before their children. Yes the ‘INDIAN ARMY’ was and is behind all this, be it a petty soldier or an officer. Despite whatever the media speaks, the truth remains that at times the people feel that they are not having just the threat from the militants alone but also from these so called real citizens of India. It’s just as if two terror groups are existing, one is pro – Pak and the other pro – India.

I relate to u an incident that took place some seven or eight year’s back. In Kashmir there is place called Tangmarg. Here the army launched a combing operation and during this exercise, all men and children were asked to come out of their homes. Among these men was a gentleman who was from the Kashmir Pandit community. Kindly bear in mind that this community left Kashmir in a mass exodus during 1990 but a few are still continuing. While scanning all the people present, a well to do high ranking officer asked this man that why was he still staying in the valley when all his brethren had left. Before that poor fellow could reply back, this pseudo brave man of the army hurled whatever abuses he knew or had in his encyclopedia, called him a traitor (a Pakistani to be precise) and then started to beat the man with his priced possession……..The AK 56 rifle. Is this the way of making people feel secure? It’s better to shoot them once rather than giving death everyday.

I know that a no. of people going through this review will certainly disbelieve but as they say '‘Truth is stranger than fiction’.

Yes I agree that there certainly are good men also in the army but why all the bad boys have been sent to an already disturbed state who are embarrassing and killing the innocent people in the name of counter – insurgency.

My advice to all those going through this review is that if you really want to know the real truth about your so called great army, come to Kashmir once. And during any of such visits, if you happen to go to a very remote area, don’t be surprised to see the army and militants (read Afghanis/Sudanese) giving safe passages to each other to move despite both being much more than just heavily armed. And very recently during one of my informal chat with an army officer at the Srinagar airport, he said very calmly and confidently that “WE WANT THE LAND OF KASHMIR, NOT THE PEOPLE OF KASHMIR”. So imagine if a premier force of your country is maintaining such a track record, how secure we all are then in the event of a big conflict? But it’s not that I totally dislike them. The only thing I like about the force is that till date they have not conducted any coup. Maybe they might try a hand at that also, who knows? And as I already said, ‘Truth is stranger than fiction.”
