A Review that you would all love, love2hate. Review on Indiafm

This is the transscipt of an actual conversation that took place between my brother and the Indiafm.com. Nothing new you would say about the reply, it?s a mechanical automated response?.no I am actually talking about the feelings of my brother?.it?s surprising because it actually comes from someone who actually pays a visit to this side atleast 2-3 times a week.

And believe it or not, I am sure almost 90% of people of Mouthshut.com actually visit Indiafm.com , atleast once every Friday evening and I am sure 80 % of those disagree with what Taran says, but still we visit the site again and again, why ?

Why ? Why can?t live with him and can?t live without him ? Quite frankly Indiafm.com is without doubt the most comprehensive, detailed, informative and fastest updated Bollywood site on this side of the Greenwhich meridian. It?s read by anyone and everyone who has some interest in Hindi cinema. You read the reviews both before and after seeing the movies, you go through the scoops and news, you read the previews and guess which Hollywood flick is the movie copied from, and you read how well the movie is doing at the box office?in short Indiafm.com is popular?..you see that?s the problem.

The popularity of the Indiafm.com is the problem. If something is so popular and so important in forming public opinion that it must be backed by a responsible person. Someone who is non judgemental, who does good research, someone who doesn?t get swung by the chitees and claps a movie gets from the upper stall, someone who actually understands cinema?.and quite frankly, Taran Adarsh doesn?t have even one quality required for a good reviewer ! In short in my brother?s words, TARAN ADARSH SUCKS. I will tell you why ?..

1. ALL FACTS ARE NOT TRUE !

I am sure you would have gone through the ?Box Office? section of the site. It has two sections that interest me at times, one is ?Top 5 movies? and other is ?Box office performance?. Let?s take the Box office perforamce thing. Okay now this one talks about the occupancy rate of the movies in the theatre. Now concidently I happened to be at the ?New Era? theatre in Mumbai at the first day of ?Mughal-e-azam? movie and the occupancy of all the shows of the movie was 100 %, it had to be quite simply because I didn?t get any ticket for all the shows, it was houseful all the way and when the next day I check the site it showed occupancy of that very theatre as 61 % !!! How can it be possible !! So not all the facts about occupancy I guess is true. Infact I think he takes samples and uses statistics to give the data than actually considering the actually researched information. In short not everything that Taran says is gospel truth.

2. HIT , FLOP AND TARAN.

Now here is anther section of the Box Office section that I would like to focus on. It is the top five movie thing in which there is a column for the verdict ie whether a film is hit or flop, or average. Now first of all the top 5 movies at times don?t match the one shown on Set Max and Zee cinema, but okay that is acceptable. But what is shocking is the verdict thing.

Now when do we consider a film as a hit or flop. According to my knowledge and I might be wrong, a film is a hit when it makes more money that it spent and a flop otherwise. Now you would agree that a film cant recover all it?s cost of making in one day, or one weekend , or even one week. Statistically it is impossible unless it is a movie like Veer Zaara in which had a record number of prints. So in short we have to wait atleast for 2-3 weeks for a film to be considered hit or flop. Some movies , including classics like Sholay and Mughal-e-azam actually did average and below average business in the week of there release and then slowly caught up. So it is impossible to brand a movie hit or flop in one week?.we agree to that. Plus you also have to consider the movie earned overseas, and ideally the money made from DVD, VCD release and TV rights, but we may keep it aside. So in short the way Taran brands films as hit or flop.?IS WRONG !

Also what about the low budget movie like ?Morning Raaga?, ?King of Bollywood? and other ?Multiplex? cinema and cinema for niche audience . Now you see these movies will easily earn 50 % of there earning if they just manage to hang on for 1 week with 70 % of occupancy which they do alright and the rest 30 % they can easily make from selling there DVDs. Infact these movies are so low budget that they easily manage to earn equal to or more than they make. Similar for Mahesh Bhatt, RGV type medium budget films. Infact if this wasn?t so then RGV?s Factory, Mahesh Bhatt?s production house and Pritish Nandy communications would have closed shop considering the high quantity and low quality movies they have churned up. So if the movies actually take out what they spend?.then they must be called Hits or atleast Average if we use the above formula?.but in Taran?s world?.they are all flops !!!

Eg: Vaada is considered Average- Vashu Bhagani says it?s a hit

Swades is supposed to be a flop, Ashutosh says he has recovered his money

Musafir is supposed to be average, it crores of deficit to catch up

3. BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS

In all the reviews he writes?what is most annoying (apart from the stars he give about which I will talk about in a moment ) is the Box office prediction that he makes ! This one is annoying but also stupid ! I mean how can anyone actually make a prediction unless he knows a lot of astrology or Tarot Card reading !!!! If people understood how the box office would respond to a movie why would they make a movie with poor response in the first place ! I mean if a the makers knew that the film wouldn?t do well at the box office why would they make it ! If you understand box office so well Taran?why don?t you make a movie !!! Let me prove to you how much wrong Taran is in his predictions from recent examples:

DHOOM : On the whole, DHOOM is a terrible letdown thanks to its insipid script. At the box-office, DHOOM will lose its sparkle after the first day or two of glory!

Result: Super hit !

HUM TUM: ??.but its prospects at single screen theatres and also at several key centres will be below the mark. Besides, the flow of biggies from next week onwards will make a dent in its business?

Result: Superhit

AB TUMHARE HAWALE WATAN From the business point of view, the film has excellent prospects in circuits such as U.P., Bihar and Punjab thanks to its mass appealing flavour

Result: UP, Bihar?.flop everywhere !!
