Never subscribe to India Today

The India Today Group likes to sell its magazines by offering subscriptions attached to freebies. Maybe they know the worth of their magazines, but they do make suckers of thousands of people. I have begun to doubt the honesty of Mr Aroon Poorie who claims to be an editor in chief.

I am a long time subscriber of India Today and Business Today. The magazines have been properly delivered for some years. Then, in March 2008, they stopped coming. I waited for a few weeks and then wrote to customer service of India Today. The e-mail ID is wecare@intoday.com, which is a bit of a joke, as it should be “we-don’t-care-a-damn@intodaycom.”

When you write giving all the details, they send you a mail asking for your subscriber number. Since the copies do not carry any address label, I wonder where I will find the wretched number of the subscription that I took several years back. Instead, I write back that they should find the number themselves. They do, which just shows that they were being callous in the first place!

However, I get another mail from  the India Today idiots, they cannot find my Business Today subscription [BT175246]! What kind of an scoundrel runs their customer service centre!

However, their efficiency does not go beyond finding their numbers. After three months, I still await resolution to the problem of delivery of both India Today and Business Today. Some two issues were delivered after I made a lot of complaints, but silence again. The scoundrels at India Today customer care centre do not even care to reply to e-mails anymore.

I have lost my money in both the magazines. I hope readers of this post will not subscribe to India Today group magazines, especially if they live in non-metro towns. I believe they deliver properly in the metors, but I could be wrong.

The sucker that I am, I took a 5-year subscription of both the magazines, I have nothing to show for my money except for the stupid “free gifts” they gave me. In any case, since they like to write about political things – an ineffectual Prime Minister and his aunt – the magazine is not worth the paper it is printed on. AVOID!
