As middle-class people we have always depended on the post office. But certain developments that have happened lately have forced us to think otherwise. We have some money invested in the monthly income scheme(MIS) of the post office. In March this year the post office forced us to open a savings account. They also forced us to make withdrawals by cheque. All transactions of the MIS accounts have to take place via the savings account.Any new MIS accounts must have the money deposited in the savings account. However the cheques of the post office savings account are not recognised outside. Now they have come up with a strange rule that amounts to daylight robbery. They are saying that anyone having more than Rs 4.5 lakhs to his name in a MIS account must return the interest income from that money. This means the government will deduct this money from that MIS corpus which will be withdrawn because it is in excess of Rs 4.5 lakhs.Various governments are giving PV Sindhu Rs 13 crore. Now we know where that money comes from.It is by stealing from the hard-earned savings of common people. The people who keep their money in post office MIS schemes are ordinary folks who neither have crores of black money nor influence. They keep the money in the post office because they implicitly trust the government. But if this thing happens it will be thievery, absolutely stealing. And to think Modi promised'achche din; to us.
