The story is based entirely on fiction that certain extractors and inceptors can sow an idea in a subject’s mind. Chris Nolan experiments with a strange idea, but it is very hard to believe.
The story revolves around the thief Cobbs, who wants to poison Fischer Jr’s mind with the idea of separating from his dynasty and starting his own empire, leaving the Fischer empire in doldrums.
Cobbs wife, Mal, whom he has already implanted an idea into, who kills herself because of the implanted idea, tries to stop Cobbs from playing with reality and dreams. And tries to seek revenge. But a whole team of thieves, take to medication to get into the subconscious of Fischer Junior and get him to believe that he is not good enough for his dad’s empire. Seriously, there are many easier ways by which you can poison someone’s mind.
But Cobbs and his team go the whole hog in entering and leaving Fischer’s subconscious mind, all the while trying to implant the idea of him separating from his dad.
The special effects in the movie are awesome and the script is great. It’s a lot better than science fiction and witchcraft. Some lines in the movie also hint that there is a practice in the US of people entering into dreams together and building unreal worlds and actually talking and conversing with each other in dreams. Someone also hints in the movie that it is not only difficult but extremely subtle to enter into someone’s subconscious and alter his psyche and thought pattern.
Smells of a collective, contrived crime by the many against the one. The movie is path breaking as it deals with an extraordinary issue, which a few centuries from now, might turn into reality, but at the moment seems too far fetched.
The star cast is good and the dialogue is crisp. The scenes confuse and fudge the intellect enough so that you don’t know in the movie what is real and what is unreal. A great one time watch.
