Is HOLLYWOOD going the BOLLYWOOD way?

Is a good question to ask at this time. Bollywood is certainly making its mark with sleek productions, special effects and also the amount of gloss that it tends to add to the films nowadays! Its a known fact that OVERSEAS is now a huge territory and rings in the mullah for our Bollywood Producers! So also it works the other way round! Hollywood flick In Her Shoes is an absolute melodramatic emotional story that can stir your heart!

Writer Jennifer Weiner(also the author of the book)has done justice to an emotion in the wake of America being devoid of Familial bliss. She has portaryed a beautiful story that contains conflict, comedy and a family status quo that is so commonly found across the continent!

Director Curtis Hanson(Credits The River Wild, L A Confidential, Wonder Boys and more recently Lucky You)has treated this subject with apt doses of emotion, comic situations and has extracted performances from the lead stars. He has done his bit in making a NORMAL film in the wake of super heroes, horror and disaster oriented world of cinema!

*The Cast

Maggie:                           Cameron Diaz

Rose:                               Toni Collette

Todd:                               Anson Mount

Jim Danvers:                 Richard Burgi

Sydelle Feller:               Candice Azzara

Ella:                                 Shirley McLaine

*Thats a star cast! Each and everyone an accomplished actor, know where the camera is and can ACT!

The story begins where Maggie is a blond bimbo who loves the good life of America. Parties, booze and more parties and more booze(Not that I mind it:)). She passes out, at one such event, after having marathon sex in the toilet of the party scene. Rose,  her sister is an absolute girl next door, lawyer more of a plain Jane and is on the heavier side of being hit upon by young budding lawyers of the state of Philadelphia! Their mother is dead and the father michael(ken Howard)marries Sydelle. This is where the story begins! Bollywoodish so far aint it;)?

Magie still lives at her home because she doesnt have to pay rent until the step mother decides to kick her out of the house and make room for her own daughter referred to as "**My Marsha'.

Maggie finds her grandmother Ellaand starts living at a "Senior Citizens Home for the Active Retired".Thus begins a harrowing yet wonderfully enriched in lifes' bitter truths living for Maggie.

Thisis not a 'chick flick'by any standards! It certainly has a chick in Cameron, who is comfortable in almost anything she wears whether its a bikini, a tank top or even hospital scrubs! At best I would describe it as a film that the entire family can sit and watch together and take moral lessons from. The roles played by all involved are so magnificiently performed that the events that take place at the Senior Citizens Home are worth every penny that you spend!

*Lesson No.1: The presence of Grand parents can have a very calming, educative and yet hilarious experience for the teens and adults alike!

The mischievousness portrayed by Dora, and the older gang, referred to as"Queen Bees" by Magie are truly hilarious to watch! The attitude is completely "been there done that".

The scenes between Maggie and the patient at the hospital she works part time are so well crafted that your heart goes out to Maggie, particularly where you learn that the old man has died!

Ella,is not your typical'on the other side' kind of lady! She is a tough cookie and always says her heart and puts her mind to work! The relationship development between Maggie and Ella is ahown naturally, progressively and very emoyionally. It has all the ingredients of aggressiveness from the youth to the kindness of the heart form the Old which includes buying a plasma TV to bond with the younger girl! Its amazing!

*Lesson no.2: Please do not miss such films because they will tend to grow on your heart, make you think about your loved ones and makeyou stronger fromthe inside.

The recital of a beautiful poem by Maggie at her sister Roses' wedding goes something like this;

*" *i carry your heart with me

(i carry it in**my heart),

I am never without it

(anywhere i go) you go, my dear .

I can go on and on. But I wish that you would watch this DVD and write about it here! The whole film makes perfect "Family sense"to me!

Life is one big struggle, Family helps you bind the troubles and look at everyday like it never was!
