Being an ardent fan of cricket....today I can safely say that Imran Khan was probably the best all rounder of the modern cricket of the last 30 years at least.

He was the childhood hero of all the budding cricketers in the 80s and 90s. When he started playing cricket, he was the first ever genuine fast bowler with scorching speed. He was the first one to bang the ball hard on the baked mud wickets of south asia. He rapidly improved his action with the help of John Snow to a side on action. His first major bowling feat was beeting australia in Sydney in the 70s with his serious pace and swing. He then became famous for finishing the great Bishen Bedi's career by hitting him for 19 runs in an over to win the test series in pakistan in 1977.

He then completely destroyed new comers Srilanka with his extremely fast pace and swing by taking 14 wickets in a test match.

He was prized with captaincy in 1980. This started the golden era of probably the best captain in the history of pakistan. At that point great all rounders like Botham and Kapil Dev have failed as captains as their game was affected by their captaincy. However with Imran, it lifted his game to dizzying height. He lead from the front and won a test in Lords for the first time. He successfully bowled fast and became a very responsible batsman.

Indian visit to pakistan in 1982-83 will be remembered in history. This was the emergence of now legendary reverse swing art discovered by sarfraz and finessed by Imran Khan. He produced deliveries which boomeranged. His 200th wicket was the famous delivery which came back long way to root viswanath's wicket. He bowled out india in dead wickets in 3 test matches.

Luck had suddenly turned bad. He had apparently worked so hard that he incurred a stress fracture of his shin. This almost finished his career at the time, when he was the fastest bowler of the work and at the peak of his craft.

With his extreme will power, he emerged again after a few years lapse. His speed has slightly reduced but he still was a major power. His bowling still cut and swung both ways at a very good pace and his batting improved tremendously.

He then became the best ever captain who lead from the front and won first ever series in india and england.

After several accomplishments, he finally was able to win the world cup with a team, which probably was the weakest in the history.

He thence retired to the became a great social worker and his best was yet to come. This was the accomplishment of the most modern cancer hospitals in the entire south asia. He finally was able to make that dream come true and amazingly is still providing mostly free care to the poor people of pakistan in one of the most modern facilities of the world. Being a physician myself, I know, how bad the need was. This was another trend setter and now many singers and celebrities are following his path of nobility.

Every great person has a few weaknesses. He who won all the challenges of his life, finally failed in his marital relationship. He however gracefully separated from his wife and is moving along.

Now he is building one of the best univerisities in South Asia in Mianwali where he hales from. He has been awarded with the Vice chancellor ship of the Bradford University.

He will always remain our hero and role model.
