Must for guys working in Corporate. Review on If God was a Banker - Ravi Subramanian

First reaction after reading this book, If God was a Banker!!

If I have to mention about this book in one line, I will say it a worth reading. Package of entertainment, lessons of life and corporate culture.

Well, language is very simple; story is simple but interesting and most importantly very smooth. Once you start reading it, it really holds your attention.For any book, this is the must. It should maintain the interest.

Story:

The story is about two guys with same education but different background; different thinking; different approach towards life. Their names are SUNDEEP and SWAMI. They are IIM product. They join NYB bank who is starting its banking operation in India. They grow with bank. They married. They made some friends, some enemy. Their relationship with each other changed. They got success but with different approach. So, this is the story; mainly corporate life. Because they are living for bank and personal desire to succeed. So each character is related with some way to the bank. But one good thing is that both of them have one common mentor, ADITYA. He is the one who has given them brake; provided guidance; helped them to maintain their personal as well as professional life.

*What this book gives to you?

*Why this is book is good is because the lesson you get from this book, along with entertainment. This book ends at a good node. But, it really shows different approach towards life, and which one is correct; and also the consequences of wrong approach. This book also describe the reason why crisis occurs, and how desire to get success and  that too in short time leads to so called short-cuts, which ultimately leads to short term success but big loss for long term. And how much pressure we undergo to achieve the target which leads to go for unethical means to achieve it. You can better understand this thing at this point of time (i.e. US sub-prime crisis).

Who should read this book?

All those guys who are working in corporate must read this book. They are going to feel this book. Some bad aspects of corporate which are mentioned in the book will be there (although they are exaggerated but they are true) in real life too. I know some of the characters of this book exist and I personally know them. And I have seen their short term success also and long term loss also. So go for this book without any doubt. And all those who are working or have worked in bank must read this book.

I deeply believe in philosophy of this book. I think, young people who are going to join corporate in near future should read this book and without worrying should take positive decision from this book.

What can be improved?

More behavior of main characters can be covered. Adiyta’s character is not fully explained.
