Sunil Gavaskar of course is the greatest cricket player of this World. My idea may surprise all the peoples all over this World. Sunil Gavaskar has batted against the World's most feared fast bowlers by opening the batting and when the shine of the ball is there the cricket ball does a lot in the air and off the pitch. Batting against the then pace bowlers was a treat to watch and scoring runs against the superb field setting support scoring 10000 runs is the biggest thing indeed. All will accept this point.
Why Donald Bradman is not the best batsman. Let me tell you the technical point. Donald Bradman used to go for batting only one down or two down whereas SUNIL GAVASKAR used to play and open the batting for India and against some of the most feared fast bowlers. Donald Bradman might now have known what was likely to happen when a batsmen faces the new ball bowling and Donald Bradman might not have known, what is like opening the innings when the bowlers come with fresh full power. The cricket ball does so much of things when it is new the cricket ball swings in the air off the pitch much more than at one down or two down.
When Donald Bradman went for batting the shine on the cricket ball was lost and hence playing one down or two down was all the more easier.
I have written the review about Sunil Gavaskar as the greatest batsman on the defensive form of cricket. He scored 10000 runs in test cricket which was a record. If you take any cricket book the copy book of cricket the foundation is Sunil Gavaskar’s style of playing cricket game and NOT Donald Bradman’s style. Hitting sixes can go often goes to safe hands of fielders, and the batsmen gets out also. The pride of sixes is short lived. Donald Bradman was an ideal player for baseball game or tennis game and his cricket playing was rather baseball game type and not cricket game type.
Regarding building innings, Sunil Gavaskar did that and he was there to build the innings, he was there to play cricket till almost all the batsmen were out still one end Sunil Gavaskar was occupying the crease. Hitting sixes is tennis shot and Gavaskar might think that it was not cricket or he was not interested in that risk of getting out was possible.
People talk of only Donald Bradman’s averages. Do you mean to say that if a test cricket player plays one innings and scores 150 runs not out and retires from Test cricket gets more average than Donald Bradman is the greatest batsman. Average alone does not mean the greatest.
If you think that Donald Bradman is the greatest and you should know that during his last innings Donald Bradman was out for zero and Donald Bradman was out for ZERO on a delivery for which the bowler offered the batsman Donald Bradman to hit a four or sixer so that his average goes beyond 100% but unfortunately out on a simple short of length delivery. What do you have to say about this. Sunil Gavaskar was not out on a short of length delivery as that of Donald Bradman. Sunil Gavaskar getting out to Lillee and Thomson cheaply does not contain any weight since Sunil Gavaskar was consistent and got 10000 runs an Indian opener.
Who said one day cricket is cricket. They call it cricket but not so. I don’t consider one day cricket as cricket.
ONE DAY CRICKET IS NOT CRICKET AT ALL. SUNIL GAVASKAR IS NOT A CRICKET PLAYER FOR ONE DAY CRICKET. SUNIL GAVASKAR’s cricket playing method is DEFENSIVE CRICKET and COPY BOOK cricket. SUNIL GAVASKAR may not be interested in playing the shots like tennis shots or baseball shots which can make him out. SUNIL GAVASKAR was solid defensive player an ideal player copy book for any Indian to copy and play.
BASEBALL TYPE PLAYING CRICKET IS NOT CRICKET. TENNIS METHOD OF PLAYING CRICKET IS NOT CRICKET AS PER THE CRICKET FOUNDATION COURSE IS CONCERNED. That is how I learnt cricket game.
ONE DAY CRICKET IS NOT CRICKET AT ALL. ONE DAY CRICKET IS BASEBALL TYPE GAME. IN ONE DAY CRICKET MATCH PEOPLE PLAY TENNIS GAME TYPE CRICKET WHICH IS NOT CRICKET according to foundation course in cricket game. This is what I learnt in my School.
Whereas opening the batting involves lots of technical talent good eye sight and technically the batsman has to be perfect. First few overs are very very difficult to bat indeed. The batsman cannot settle perfectly during the first and second overs. The fast bowlers come fresh from the dressing room with lots of fresh energy. Batting wise any batsman needs 2 to 3 overs to settle. But within 2 to 3 overs the bowlers try to bowl nicely and take early wickets. Genuine good pace bowlers get wickets during the first over itself.
Sunil Gavaskar played lots of fast bowling and scored total of 10000 runs. Playing against West Indian fast bowlers was one of the best batting display by Sunil Gavaskar.
Sachin Tendulkar also is not the best No.1 batsmen since Sachin Tendulkar has not opened India consistently like SUNIL GAVASKAR. Most of the time Sachin Tendulkar has batted one down or two down when actually the shine on the cricket ball was NOT there so batting is all the more easier at number three and four. Hence Sachin Tendulkar also does not come to my rating as the World's No.1 batsman of this World.
While Sunil Gavaskar has batted against the fresh fast bowlers by opening consistently and also batted against spin bowlers WHEREAS Sachin Tendulkar has not batted against the fast bowlers by opening the Indian innings as much consistently as that of Sunil Gavaskar.
This World's No.1 tittle is given by MEDIA people and the media all over this World often commits errors since they give their own opinion and decision is taken by themselves.

STATISTICS can mislead people and media. If you take statistics alone then Sachin Tendulkar leads the table with maximum runs and DONALD BRADMAN gets eliminated in the reckoning since DONALD BRADMAN has not played one day matches.
As a cricket player who has played a lot of Ghalli Cricket I know how difficult it is to bat the FIRST FIVE OVERS TO TEN OVERS. Also, I know how powerfully I can bowl the FIRST FIVE TO TEN OVERS of the day and how nicely I can take the first wicket in the first over second wicket in the second over. I tell you it is very very difficult to bat the FIRST FIVE OVERS TO TEN OVERS. Donald Bradman or might not know how difficult it is because they have not played as an opening batsmen consistently.
