After dealing with the human kid, Global meltdown and the Dinosaur era, the awesome trio of Manny, Diego and Sid are back in action with this time squirrel causes the great continental drift which causes the separation of Manny, Diego and Sid with the rest of their friends and families.
This latest one will not disappoint Ice Age fans. Even though the basic plot of the film is still the same, i.e relationships, love, companionship, betrayal and finally an exciting re-union, ‘Ice Age 4’ is a joy ride altogether.
The characters of ‘Ice Age’ are the ones who impart a vibrant feel to the film. Their role, situations, style mixed with a creative mix of technology which director Steve Martino has implemented in this new 3D venture, makes ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ an ideal film to enjoy with family, not just only for the children.
The story begins when Manny and Ellie 's daughter Peaches is grown up and is excited to explore the world. Manny, like any father is seriously concerned about her who is having her first crush. Manny tries to explain things to her but it ends up with a fall-out before the continental drifts.
And then squirrel causes the great continental drift which causes the separation of Diego, Sid and Manny with his family and here the journey begins.
As Manny drifts even further from his family on an ice block, there enters a new character - the evil monkey pirate Captain Gutt who claims to be the master of the sea and who with his funny crew, try to capture Manny and his group. During this journey, love blossoms between Diego and Shira , a female pirate cat. The intense conflict with the monkey ends in the defeat of Gutt thanks to the combined efforts of Sid’s granny and her pet, a gigantic yet gentle whale. ICE AGE 4 has a couple of more extra characters added to it. And Sid's granny is the one who needs to watch out for. She is amazing and funnier than Sid.
Special effects in the film, especially the encounter with big waves makes viewing the film a fabulous experience.The one thing that I didn't liked about IA4 is that, there is too much of adventure been seen after every 8-10 mins. The previous versions which were quite balanced in terms of entertainment, had less as compared to fourth one.
‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ may not be as good in terms of the storyline as the earlier ones, but it’s definitely not boring. If you are looking forward to a weekend you want to spend with family ‘Ice Age 4’ is a pretty safe!
I give 3.5 stars to the film – point 5 for the music, one for the punches, one for its brand new characters, and one for Sid’s granny as our humble tribute to the senior citizens of the world.
