MTNL IPTV, Delhi by Aksh Optifibre: Update. Review on IPTV

Update as on 20/04/2009:Finally & thankfully, I got it cancelled this Saturday. I really had a good laugh when I saw the similar problem appearing on the TV in MTNL Sanchar Hat that I was facing.

I was told by the clerk there that I should follow up with Aks people to get my refund. He introduced me to some representative of Aks IPTV. This person told me that I did it right to get the service cancelled and also that I should take a cable connection. He said that IPTV is a lousy product and senior management doesn't do anything else except taking big salaries.:)

Considering MTNL IPTV of Aksh Optifibre? PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS SERVICE! Apologies for my shouting! I could not resist it. I am really tired & sick of this forking service. Candidly speaking, I am really really pissed off. Here is the story.

I have MTNL Triband internet and it works just fine. I was not really happy with the services my cable operator was providing and thought of going a little more technical. So, I ordered IPTV through MTNL on December 22, 2008. They told me it may take 15-20 days to setup this service at my place. I had to chase them up for nearly 2 months to set it up. And when I planned to cancel it, they finally installed it on 7 March 2009. NIce beginning, eh?

Before final instalation, I got calls and visits from Aksh Optifibre people almost thrice and none had any idea how a laptop operates and how to check their own lousy website. At last, one of them installed IPTV and showed us how good the service is. Aah! my mistake. It wasn't that good. First, he messed up my wireless internet and it did not work until I called MTNL n number of times. Second, the IPTV that looked so beautiful the first day, appeared such a ugly thing that it is keeping everyones blood pressure high.

Till date, I have called them nearly 20 times, sent emails through their website, complained at MTNL.and nothing seems to be working. They keep calling me to check modem LEDs, connections to set top box and TV etc. etc. And everytime I tell them that I have tried evefrything they have suggested and this thing simply does not work.

Problems: Even if you use high speed broadband connection, it will disconnect every few minutes showing error messages like:

1. Waiting signal.

   
   




2. The page has not found.BLAH BLAH BLAH

   
   




3. WLAN Network is disconnected, go fork yourself.

   
   




4. Network unavailable.etc etc

   
   

By the way, all this happens when you are watching your favorite shows and never works again

Positives: There are few good things too, provided you have good luck and only if it works for you.

1. It is cheap. you pay Rs. 999 initially and later 200 per month. This 999 is refundable.

   
   




2. Almost 150 channels are free. You get almost all channels that are popular. Sony, Star, Zee, NDTV, AXN, HBO, sports channels, regional channelsetc. even FTV.:-)

   
   




3. You can rewind the show you are watching.that is, live recording.

   
   




4. Almost 200 free movies available. Unfortunately most of them are old.

   
   




5. You can buy a movie for 24 hours in just Rs. 10.

   
   




6. You can watch programmes of last 3 days through Time Shift TV.

   
   

All this is possible only if your IPTV works. The only issue is, it never works.

MTNL, Aksh: Please wake up. You will soon lose more that you got.
