We bought our IFB Senator(serial No. 17668) in 2001. It worked well enough for the next four years requiring little or no servicing although we got signed up an AMC with IFB Industries in 2004. The fun and games began last year. The machine broke down and we called in a complaint. Someone came three days later, declared the machine defective and went off without doing a thing. After persistent complaints, a "senior technician" came two days later identified the fault and left saying he would return with the parts. They returned with the parts and fixed the machine three days later.

The machine broke down six weeks later and the pattern was repeated: complaint followed by visit in 3 days followed by another visit and yet another. At this stage they confessed that the motor had been wrongly fixed by the technicians on the previous occasion. It was eventually fixed only to break down once again late last year. Again the same procedure: complaint, visit 3 days later, hasty departure, another visit with no parts, final visit setting the machine right "temporarily" with the statement that the fan belt would be changed shortly. This did not happen.

In the latest episode, the machine conked out on Jan 11. The complaint (No 690912) was registered on the same day. The machine was finally fixed after two visits and repeated calls to the service manager on Jan 18. It broke down again on Jan 21 and another complaint was lodged(No 709715) since when nothing has happened. There is no point calling the complaints call centre, its based in Bangalore(we are in DLF Gurgaon). The service manager is a gent called Anshuman Gupta. He's obviously shy and retiring since he never answers his phone. Perhaps he should retire.

As for my wife and I? We plan to trade this machine in and buy another brand. Any takers?

Now here is the P.S.

I smsd the ubiquitous anshuman gupta drawing his attention to this review the day it was written(Jan 31). Wonder of wonders! He called minutes later and I heard his dulcet tones for the first time(thank you mouthshut!). His blokes arrived  today(Feb 01) and replaced the drum, the gasket and various other parts. They descaled the machine and its working with a satisfactory hum! Don't know for how long but am keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you MOUTHSHUT.COM!
