Festive season almost to the end of 2006, My hubby and I walk into Cosme Matthias showroom in Panjim.Actually we were looking for a good durable Godrej cupboard, but the usual inquisitive housewife syndrome took over me and I began wandering aimlessly around the store, finally I landed close to a rack of appliances, My hubby and I began staring at the line of Microwaves on display on the top shelf, out of these one would be selected by us and come to stay with us forever, but just think of it we were actually there to buy a cupboard weren’t we.
The two able sales ladies convinced us that it is the best festive discount and the prices would shoot up after the first week of Jan, After the syndrome, I got a psychological panic, oh my I was about to save Rs 2000/- if I buy it that week, these sales people do a good job with psychological pricing. There were two types of Microwaves available one was a heating microwave and other was conventional with three capacities. In the past my parents had actually done a big blunder by just buying the heating type of MO, and I hopelessly tried baking in this oven. I discussed the technicalities with my hubby and he was convinced. We went for the largest one 30 Liters, so that I can bake the largest cake in our village if possible.
I was delighted when I actually got a box of containers with our purchase as well as a Cooking book with all different recipies that can be made in a microwave.Can you imagine I also got a idli maker mould which can make idlies in my microwave.I was really thrilled with this, however I have not yet tried it, I will next time I land in Goa.
Now are the proud owners of this steel gray IFB beauty which sits on our kitchen shelf and has a corner of its own.
I actually did try baking the KFC kind of Chicken and green masala chicken.And my hubby and Father in law just enjoyed it a lot.
I have instructed my Father-in-law on how to use this oven. It goes something like this.
1.Switch on the Microwave.
Open the Microwave; place your plate – Porcelain or Micro proof plastic container.
Select the type of cooking you want to do. Rotate the knob till you set it for 3 minutes.
Press the start button on the center of the knob and let it do its bit of a ball room dance.
Meanwhile you can count backwards if you want, that’s my usual pastime.
When it indicates it’s cooked, remove your plate.
Donot be fooled that the food is cold, cause you can just burn your fingers, it will be very very hot.
A tip on cleaning a microwave, Just place a porcelain bowl filled with water and put half a lime into this.Set your microwave on high for 5 minutes and just see the difference, your microwave will smell like fresh lime.This tip actually takes away all the odor from the oven and keeps it fresh.
