I landed at one of their bank branches and asked for medical insurance as my wife had undergone mastectomy for breast cancer six months back. I had surfed the websites for family policy and after getting through ICICI Lombard's which had a detailed proposal form and provided for coverage of pre-existing diseases. The staff instructed one of its agents who noted down my contact no. The form that I filled was miniature one as compared to the form appearing on their website. I asked for clarification & he said, this is the only form. As there was no provison for stating pre-existing disease, I sought clarification and stated that it was indeed essential otherwise there would be problem at the time of settlement. I wrote a brief on my wife's illness and urged him to include after confirming from his boss. He agreed. Later on he informed me the inclusion of the brief was necessary and he has included it in the proposal form. Days passed and I kept on enquiring about the policy as premium money was debited from my account. 40 days after filing proposal form, he informed that due to some shifting problem, the courier got returned and same is again despatched to their office. But to my surprise, I received a rejection letter after 55 days. As per their letter rejection was because the case did'nt suited their underwriting criteria. I have been asking the real reason /underwriting criteria, but have not received any reply from their end. Neither the agent nor the company is sending me the copy of proposal form, I asked for. Later on I lodged a complaint with IRDA through email. They have raised the matter with the COmpany. I again went to the bank branch, the official asked me to refill the proposal form and another agent asked me not to disclose the pre-existing illness of my wife. BUt I refused. I came to know that there are two proposal forms with slightly different premium, the reason furnished to me was that one was the proposal from used by ICICI lombard and another one from their bank under bankassurance. The knowledge level of agents is very poor and usally they do not respond once they collect premium cheques.
