Here is the experience I had with ICICILombard - self acclaimed as India’s no 1 general insurance company.


I had an ICICI credit card before I left India for higher studies in USA last year.


Sometime in October 07, a representative of ICICI Lombard called my erstwhile phone number and offered a general insurance policy, the amount for  for which would be debited to my ICICI credit card for the sake of'convinience'. The member of my family who answered the call flatly refused any such policy. It was clearly told that the cardholder is not residing in India currently, and such a policy would be of no use. The representative disconnected the call thanking for the conversation.


I was shocked to see the monthly balance statement for my ICICI credit card. It showed INR 10600.00 charged towards ICICI Lombard Insurance policy. I was outraged by shameless audacity of the representative and took action immediately. I made an international call from USA to customer service center and asked them to cancell the policy which was thrust upon me without my consent. I also wrote an e-mail to customer support division stating the problem. First, I was told that the policy was sold to me due to my acceptance. When I denied that flatly, after a few mails, I received a mail stating cancellation of the policy and refund of the amount. There was not even a vestige of regret in themail for their impunity and the financial and logistical inconvenience it caused to me. The next  credit card statement too showed that they had done their work as promised.  I thought that my ordeal ended and in order to prevent any such mischief in future, cancelled my credit card with ICICI bank.


Now I receive a billing statement from ICICI bank that shows a list of service tax, cancellation charges and other taxes amounting to about INR 400.00. I have written to the company asking them to undo the charges because it is their fault. The company wrote back saying they would get me in touch with me in "short time". It is over a week now, and I have not yet heard anything on the issue.


After reading the revies here, I realize that I am not the only one the company has played this trick on. This company is a bunch of daylight robbers. I think this is the time we taught them a lesson about business ethics. People, beware of this company. Do not let your hard earned money down the drain by buying products from this company.


I also request enlightened people here to inform me if I can sue the company. If so, whom should I conact?
