Well I had an ICICI bank account since 2001. Till then I used to have an account with Canara... I still remember how I used to withdraw cash... Run to my bank as I am getting late for my office.. jot in my request and get a billa.. wait in the queue... for your turn.. finally the buzzer and voila its someone elses turn.. lol.. finally after lots and lots of waiting.. withdraw and run cause I am already late..
Now.. the process so simple.. walk in into the nearest ATM any time and withdraw... ICICI began with investing into technology and moved the history of banking in India.. soon it sprung up with atms in lotsa of places... Where ever you moved a ICICI atm was sure to be around.. I do not know of any other bank who did this.. with more than 1400 atms I think they have the largest atm network..
In those days I do not know of any other bank who used to offer web enabled accounts..... Transferring money between your accounts was so simple.. Furthermore if anyone else had a ICICI account you could transfer amounts online.. no cheques no waiting periods.. etc.. Not to mention you could link your credit cards and other products to your account so that you could have all your accounts liked together. Not to forget hassle free bill payments and autodebits so that you would not miss your credit payments...
As I know of.. Now other banks might be offerring the same products but the one that stood out was ICICI.
ICICI also took the lead by doing extensive sales campagins for retail accounts and other banking products..which I think now is banned by the RBI. Here is where they took the beating.. cause consumers were tricked into opening accounts by the Direct Sales Agents or Marketing Associates by inventing schemes...
Furthermore, As I know of.. even the largest bank like SBI still is on the process of building up their infrastructure with the recent launch of their site onlinesbi.com .. I guess they are way behind of schedule...
