ICICI bank!!!! a shame on our banking system!! and the customer service..... worst I ever experienced.
It was quite easy to open an NRE account from abroad since they don't need the documents to be endorsed by Indian Embassy or other bank, but your pain will start during banking.
What I experienced and belive is that any bank need to rely on the customer for its survival. I am giving you money and you are earning income out of my money, so who is doing favour to whom? definately it is me who is doing favour on you (Bank). But in most of our banks, a customer is treated as if the bank is doing great favour on him. While at home we nearly forget that we expect a better treatment from the bank but when anyone expoused to the qality banking abroad definitely feel the difference.
After 2 years of banking with ICICI and experiencing lots of bitterness, recently I requested the bank for a change in my communication address since I changed my flat recently. I requested the bank to use my office add for any future communication where usual letters come for me. Surprisingly, the bank asked to arrange a no objection letter from my boss, OK, I arranged the letter while the college principal laughted at me after knowing the reason. I am a scientist in a University in Ireland. After receiving my documents, bank informed me that their document showed me a job holder, but since my NOC was signed by a college principal, they think I am a student....... I couldnot convinced the bank that other than student a scientist could be there in a research institute/university. After exchanging e-mails for 3 months with the customer service where I found a gang of idiots, who probably got their qualifications through buying certificates from printing shops only. Everytime I send an e-mail, I found a new person responding to me and I had to start the story from the begining.
Finally, I decided to say bye bye to ICICI and would like to caution NRI to rethink before approaching to ICICI bank for future banking.
