Few might disagree if I say that ICICI changed the way we bank.
I have been using ICICI since 1999 and I predomantly use the website for all my banking needs.
Managing savings, opening FDs, payment of bills (I have been paying Credit Card, BSNL and MSEB bills online quite a few months now), payment of premiums (LIC), recharge of prepaid mobile phones, routine tasks like cheque book request, etc.
My experience with ICICI can be summed up like this:
When it works, it is unmatched. When it does'nt, only God can help you.
In my relationship with ICICI there have been 4-5 hiccups and I had a harrowing time with them on each of those occassions. For example, I once saw a debit of 15,000 to my account to 'MSEB'. I was shocked as I had not made any such payment to MSEB. When I checked my records, I had given that cheque to a different party. I called that party and confirmed that they had received the money.
So it was just a problem of the entry made against that cheque. I called up helpdesk but they always insisted that I HAD paid that amount to MSEB. A lot fo headache and some really harsh emails later, they admitted that the description was flawed and it could be corrected if I went to the branch.
But like I said, at all the other times, it was worked very well for me. One concern that I have with their website is entry level security. If anyone steals my username and password, he/she can directly logon and at least see my balance. One good thing is that now they have implemented an innovative transactional security so that person will not be able to make any transaction with just that data. They need to fix this gap eral quick. HSBC has done it well by introducing eletronic devices (I think they are called Secure IDs) without which one cannot do anything.
