In my opinion ICICI, and HDFC banks are the best in private sector. I rate ICICI slightly better than HDFC because ICICI uses technology to the fullest extent. The two most notable technology uses I want to point out are
It is the only bank that gives onetime option to change user id fot net banking. Isn't it great? It allowed me to give my own id that I can type instantly and without any thinking. For HDFC I sometimes type a digit or two wrongly.
Whenever I pay using my debit card, an sms is delivered to my mobile about the transaction even before I sign the slip! Isn't that fabulous? HDFC sends only periodical SMS messages about the balance, none when transactions happen. Instant SMS is very useful to feel safe about the balance in the savings account. There is a minor advanrage with ICICI compared to HDFC with respect to payment services. Once I logon to ICICI net banking, I can carry all payment services. WithHDFC bank, I have to go to the payment services option on the website which takes me to the net banking page later for log on. This is a little inconvinient. Another technology feature with respect to their ATMs has impressed me too.
When using HDFC ATMs, there is a small danger of forgetting to take back the Debit card. But with ICICI, there is no way I could forget to take back the card. Within a couple of seconds after inserting the card, I can take it back and carry on with my transactions. I noticed ING Vysya offers simililar ATM machines.
All these very useful features make my basic and offen required banking transactions a pleasant experience without having to go the the branch. HDFC and ICICI are first banks to find place for accepting money using net banking by most of the websites like BSNL, Airtel, Online stock Brokers, and most of the online service providers. But still, I give only 4 stars to ICICI because inspite of all the technological advantages ICICI offers, I still find a lot of people when I visit my branch!
