Today I met with some trouble. I filled fuel at a petrol pump. Now, I have an HP-ICICI credit card. I asked the attendant to make sure that he swiped it on an ICICI machine, but he didn’t. He swiped the card from an HDFC machine, which made my pay up Rs 80 as surcharge.
I immediately called up the customer care at 5:45 p.m. on June 19, 2011, and asked them to block the card so that I don’t end up paying the surcharge(I have been a victim of this malpractice more than three times). We had a long conversation, but the executive treated me very badly and transferred to called to a so-called senior, who had another conversation with me and ate up lot of my talktime while I was on roaming. The guy said that ICICI takes no responsibility for any transaction and that ICICI will take no action. Now you can listen to whole conversation since you take back-up of all calls, so I don’t feel want to waste my time writing it here.
Because I shouted, the petrol pump attendant gave me the surcharge back in cash. But I am not satisfied, because ICICI was supposed to freeze the transaction, but it DIDN’T. WHY? Instead I was bluntly asked to close my account with them. ICICI WAS SUPPOSED TO FREEZE THE TRANSACTION. What if somebody cheats me on my card for Rs 1 lakh? Will I have to end up paying for the bank’s stupidity and irresponsibility?
NO BODY HELPED ME. BUT I WAS SO ANGRY ON ICICI that the pertol pump attendant got scared and gave me a cashback of Rs. 80.
MORAL OF STORY FROM ME AND A BANKER
If you think you have been cheated on your credit or debit card, NEVER sign the slip.
