IBM's Thinkpad T60, has an odd name, somewhat looking like one of the variants of the Terminator series. If however you happen tobe a techie, or a business executive on the move, or aworking professional needing a high performance laptop, this one should suit your expectations. This is abrief review of the product.

Performance

All thinkpads in T60 series use the Core Duo technology from Intel, which for Thinkpad T60is Intel T2500 2.0GHz Core Duo. In very layman terms, you get the power of 2 CPU's in one, at a speed of 2 Ghz. Or to put it even more simple, what you are having is a laptop, with high speed and able to do multi tasking. So you could work on an important document or application, while a scan process is running in background or a download is taking place.

For techies, especially who have to do multiple tasks at a time, this is very useful. Also for business executives on the move, this could help them to do their official tasks, while downloading any programs. All at no effect to the performance. Currently at work, I have to deal with half a dozen portals, responding to queries, or doing support, and I have been able to do it with ease, without having to see the system hang. The processor comes along with a ATI X1400 128MBgraphics card, and this enables to run Games on your system. Honestly though, I am not abig computer games fan, so don't have much idea about how effective the feature will be.

Storage

With a Hard disk of 100 GB, and a RAM memory of 1 GB, storage is not an issue at all here.Currently I have a host of programs on my disk drive, and there still is a lot of unused memory out there. You could also store your favorite songs, movies, pictures out here.

Battery

While people claim about T60 having an excellent battery backup, I am not too convincedabout it. You have two kinds of battery, if you are going in for a 14" screen, you get a 6cell battery, and if you are going for a 15" screen, you get a 9 cell battery. I must say that however I have been facing issues with the battery. I have observed both in US as well as in India, that the thinkpad is rapidly discharged, when using battery. Many times I had to recharge the system again. If you are planning to work long hours, or watch a movie, I would recommend you to use the charger.

Build

IBM T60 is quite sturdy and durable overall. It is pretty suitable while going on long journeys. Using a kind of rugged plastic, makes sure the thinkpad can withstand stresses well. Also the screen is fixed with help of metal hinges, which makes sure it does not wobble. So even if you drop your laptop by mistake, it does not affect the overall working. However I would request users to be careful with the monitor, a scratch can cause damages to it. Look wise I feel fine with it's alllblack keyboard. The coloring is uniform all through, and it looks fine for me.

Monitor

I believe that the 15" screen has the Flex View feature, which however again dont have much idea of. The resolution I got on the 14" screen, was satisfactory. Not very sure, how effective it would be for gaming.

Speakers

Not too good I must say, you need to use the headphones here. Speakers do get affected by static and evenloudness, so I strongly recommend using headphones.

Wireless Access

This is one of the best feature of the system. T 60 uses the Intel 3945a/b/g wireless cards, and the monitor has an inbuilt antenna to give it an extra range. The best aspect is that the recent IBM Access sofftware displays all the available wireless connections closest to you, and you could connect easily, choosing the vendor of your choice.

At the end, I would recommend this, if you are working in an IT company, or a travelling business person or executive, who needs to be constantly in touch. Also the sturdy design makes sure, the laptop can withstand the long, strenous journeys on Indian roads.
