It was more than a year back when I had written a review on a Hindi Movie, Family commitments, & Travel didn't allow me to write reviews, but I still found time to watch some of the movies even in my tight schedule.
Never thought that I would be able to watch" I see You" as it has disappeared from the Theaters within few days from its release. I got the DVD of I See You couple of days back, watched it, thought of writing a few words about the same. Anyway the fate of this movie at the box office is know to us by now, it sinked without any trace!
I saw some of my fellow members mentioning this movie as inspired from Hollywood movie “Just Like Heaven”. But its actually a remake of a malayalam movie titled ”Vismayathumbathu” directed by Fazil with Mohanlal in the lead released in 2004. may be the writer Suresh Nair is the person behind the translation from Malayalam to Hindi. ”Vismayathumbathu” tells you the story of a man with sixth sense encounters with a spirit of a girl who is only seen by him, the story is the search of the girls identity and what made her a spirit! I see you travels in the similar path bearing a difference where the girl knows who she is.
Vivek Agarwal Debuts in this Spiritual Romantic Drama Produced by the lead actor Arjun Rampal himself. The initial reels holds the interest of the viewers but runs out of track towards the climax with lots of moments that tests the viewers patience.
The Cast
Excellent Performance from Arjun, Vipasha(New Girl) & Chunkey Pandey, Sonali, Boman Irani & Kiron Kher is wasted in insignificant Roles , The Police officer with Hindi Filmy Dialogues makes the investigation angle of the film amateurish
The Crew
Script Writer Suresh Nair may have adapted Vismayathumbathu in a better way, the writer had lost the interest towards the end. Music by Vishal-Shekar is hummable songs are not inserted in the film properly. Ashok Mehta’s cinematography is exceptional.
The Director
As a first timer, Vivek had taken a brave step by selecting a different story for his debut movie, he had followed the script well but had lost his control and was not able to connect the missing links in the story towards the end. There is no single valid reason why this movie should tell you about a story that can happen abroad?(it can happen in India as well!)
Special Appearance by Hrithik and Sharukh in the title song also didn’t help much for the movies fate in box office.
*Final Word
*The movie is watchable in parts if you are ready to spare the director for missing some major links towards the end.
Another interesting fact is that even the orginal Malayalam Movie didn't create any impact at the box office.
