Watching ''I am Sam'' last night on TV, opened the sluice gates in my eyes. The tears wouldnt just stop flowing. It's that moving! It is the story of a grown man Sam (Sean Penn) with the brain of a 7-year old, that has to come to grips with his 7-year old daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) being taken away from him by the state, on the grounds that he is incapable of bringing up a child all by himself. The mother walks out on Sam and the baby, immediately after she gives birth, leaving the mentally challenged Sam to take care of the child.

It's a feel-good movie, almost identical to Tom Hanks's ''Forrest Gump'' in its portrayal of the protagonist as the somewhat growth-challenged man, that represents the triumph of sweet naivete over the so-called conventional wisdom. Sean Penn is unbelievable as Sam, the sweet yet retarded man, working at Starbucks as a cleaner, reading Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham (from where the title of the movie comes!) to Lucy and quoting Beatles, his favorite band. Regardless of his political views, he is one of the best actors in Hollywood and it's high time he got the recognition he deserves.

Some of the scenes just tug at your heart strings, so keep the Kleenex handy! Particularly the ones that show the father and the daughter together. Dakota Fanning is very good, without being one of those annoying, smart-pants movie kids. She is real, totally believable and sooo very cute. You just wanna give her a hug and tell her everything is gonna be all right.

Michelle Pfeiffer as Sam's reluctant lawyer Rita is professional to the tee. She is an amazing actress and a great looking woman to boot.

There isnt much to the story, but it's the unimaginable power of the script that rides over everything else. The film is all about the small moments of life, discarded by many as little moments, but how those little moments can turn out to be the most precious ones! Sean and Dakota share are great together, too real!

Although there are some implausible situations and loopholes in the story, like why does the mother walk out on Sam and the baby? What happens between Sam and her? These things are not really pertinent to the story, but they could have been explained just for our sake.

However, all's well that ends well. Being a feel-good movie, it does make you very happy and very satisfied! I know I am, although my eyes are dried out, from all the tear-shedding. I need to get off the computer and blink a little to moisten them back to shape!
