I purchased an i20 Sportz VTVT on 22-11-2012 from Oja Hyundai in Guwahati. And I must say it’s a magnificent car. The build and quality are just amazing! There are many features in the car which are otherwise fond only in costly sedans. To name a few: Rain sensing wipers, LED DRLs (daytime running lamps), Rear fog lamp, rear parking camera and sensors, ECM rear view mirror, 4+2 speakers audio with USB, Ipod and bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, 8 spoke alloys, large boot space (295 lts), clutch lock, ABS, EBD, impact sensing door unlock, tilt and telescopic steering, and many more...

The response and experience from the dealer was also very good.

But I must say a few things that were certainly NOT satisfactory, especially after spending more than 6.2 lac of my hard earned money. These things made a ‘not so good’ overall experience of buying a Hyundai vehicle. For Hyundai, the car is “just one of many” cars manufactured, but for us it is “the car”

The points that I want to highlight are:

Keys: Only one flip key is provided. The second key provided is a normal key (even without the remote lock/unlock buttons). I found this amazing! (someone said its cost cutting). I bought an expensive car and I want two set of flip keys. But Hyundai has refused another flip key. And the funniest part: if I lock the car with my flip key and then open my car with normal key, the burglar alarm goes off! Am I stealing my own car? Hyundai has built such a wonderful car (and expensive too), but cannot give two similar flip keys?

Clean Air Feature: The brochure said that the Sportz model would have the ‘Clean Air’ feature. But it looks like missing. Or is it that Hyundai did not (or forgot to) put the ‘Clean Air’ sticker on the dashboard? Experts in the showroom have different opinions of whether it is present or not.

Floor Mats: The floor mats are of terrible quality, and it does not fit properly either. And the middle mat was torn at places (replaced by the dealer after a couple days). The dealer said that the mats were supplied directly by Hyundai and they were helpless. I wonder what quality checks Hyundai has in its place. Forced to buy good quality mats from outside.

Mud Flaps: The rubber mud flaps were also too bad. One of the flap was touching the tyre! Once on a long drive, I was constantly worried because the constant friction of the flap with the tyre may catch a fire! The dealer said they will be able to replace with a similar quality flap. After continuous insisting, and agreeing to surrender my accessories discount coupon (Rs. 1000) they agreed and after a week replaced the mud flaps with good quality (original Hyundai) ones. If Hyundai has good quality PVC mud flaps in their store, why are they giving poor quality flaps the first time. The dealer, again, said that the mats were supplied directly by Hyundai and they were helpless. And I thought Hyundai was another name for quality! Proven wrong!!

The accessories outlet in the showroom is scantily stocked. No pvc mud flaps, no rubber mats, no colour choice in seat covers and steering covers, et al available. The fitting of the seat cover was not perfect, even after pointing the ill-fittings (done by un-expert hands).

There was signs of dried out dripping paint (I wonder if that is the right term) in the underneath. And this was discovered after a couple of days of delivery. The Hyundai person said the underneath of the car is painted roughly (!) and this is normal. Not impressed/convinced by the answer. I think this is another quality lapse by Hyundai.
