Seriously not for people who love to drive. Review on Hyundai i20

When I first saw the ad of i20, I thought what a good car it is.

I was so inclined to buy it but at the last moment, I decided not to sell my 4 years old Ford Fiesta petrol and so postponed the purchase.

Although I recommended it to my friend and he booked the car. When I first sat in the car, I really liked the orange lit interiors and the speedo looked like BMW one. The music system sat in place and looked nice. So is the Info display.

I have driven his car about 250-300 kms, and my drive last night made me right this review.

The seats are comfortable and fit and finish of interiors are great. There are lots of holes and spaces to keep your things. The car is not too bumpy also.

Now coming to the driving point as this is why I wanted to write this review.

I simply love driving and can simply fall in love with a car if it has great driving dynamics. I must say Hyundai cars are not for people who enjoy driving. People who have a little bit more of adrenaline than their counterparts.

I switched on the engine and it seems to be refined and smooth. No noise. The gear is so slick, you actually wonder if you have put the car. Its like knife going through melted butter. Believe me, its so smooth.

The steering is very light. Great for bumper to bumper traffic. Although the road view from the car is pretty bad. You can hardly see whats in front and you may miss a bump or pothole as the seating is quite low.

This car is only suited for city traffic. Thats it.

Once you take it on the highway, you will loose all the good perception you had till now.

Although the slick gearbox helps in changing gears easily and fast but the engine response is disgusting. The engine seems like its straining to get all those horses. You continuously need to gear shift to keep the car going. Torque seems like an enemy word for this car.

Eben though Ford figo is in a lower segment than this car, still test drive the diesel version of figo and see the difference for your self. My same friend has figo too and it cruises smoothly. Pickup is great and no frequent gear shifts. Dont take my word. Just test drive i20 petrol and then try figo diesel.

For every action there is equal and opposite reaction. This seems true for this car. As the speedo keeps  going up, you keep loosing your confidence. It handles like a skateboard and the poor brakes add to the woes of driving pleasure. I can truly say that I love driving 100+ (not rashly) but this car just helped me loose my confidence.

So all in all, this car is great for city driving and for people who love 60-70 speed but seriously not for PETROLHEADS like me. I still love my Fiesta and it keeps my confidence binded.

(P.S. You must  drive a fiesta 1.6 S if you really love driving. I bet you will ultimately fall in love with it. Sorry people but I am not advertising fiesta here but I just wrote my mind.)
