Diwali 2008 – we bought the i10 Automatic. We have used the Santro Auto for long and we know how comfortable automatics are in the worst of traffic and chaos on the Pune city roads.

The Visibility from the driver’s seat is great, more legroom and all the controls fall easily to hand. Hyundai should have included seat height adjustment to go with the adjustable steering wheel; another thing you can’t adjust is the headrests. So stupid of you Hyundai? Width and legroom for the rear passengers is improved compared to the Santro but it does not feel really that way! But the specs on the sheet show that the i10 has more width and legroom than Santro.

Good interiors. Air conditioning system is very effective. The narrow vents in the centre are quite idiotic & difficult to position. Instruments cluster with green LED lights, looks quite good at night. The beige interior reflects off the windscreen and gets dirty pretty quickly. Boot capacity is 225 litres and you can flip the rear seats.

The i10 is better over the Santro in the ride and handling department. Santro was a pogo stick! The stiffer chassis, uprated suspension, new electric steering system and tubeless tyres might have done the job. But the steering lacks a connected feel which was present in the Santro. Bumps and thumps will filter into the cabin. On bad roads it still feels choppy. Turning circle is not as tight as Santros but nevertheless no complaints. i10 feels quite stable at speed. Fuel efficiency is similar to the Santro. The city figure is 10kpl and on the highway I achieved 14kpl.

The four-speed automatic box is carried over from the Santro. It’s pretty responsive and the surplus of power from the new Kappa motor(that’s what they call it now) ensures that you never struggle to keep up with the traffic. Go ahead and buy it! You will enjoy life more!

Now I proclaim that Hyundai does makes good cars. I was very apprehensive in the beginning. Rather scared to go for a Korean car. I have had a Honda, a Ford, Marutis, Tatas but after driving the Santro, Verna & now the i10 Auto I am proud to own 3 Hyundai cars.
