I own a 13 months' old i10 which had got a jammed steering and EPS alarm display on the dashboard on 02/06/09 while driving. I landed up to the Saini Hyundai workshop in Kolkata on 03/06/09 where they detected the problem as'EPS motor failure'. They said that they need 10-15 days for getting a spare motor. Iwas not told about the reason of such failure and ways to prevent this to happen again.I asked Saini Hyundai whether it was safe to drive the car with the EPS alarm ON, and got a response that it was safe.

6 days later, the EPS alarm display on the dashboard got disappeared all of a sudden, once again while driving, on 08/06/09. The steering was no more jammed and felt like there was no relation between steering movement and the actual wheel movement. This was a even more dangerous situation, while driving.

Such unexpected steering critical events that happened TWICE with a 13 months’ old car – can lead to serious consequences. It’s disturbing to note that HMIL or its dealer did not do any proper diagnosis of the problem, there is no preventive advisory being provided, neither there is any assurance from HMIL that such critical a situation will not recur.*What is being done by HMIL is only a trial and error method of attempting to solve a highly critical problem.

I came to know that Power Steering has always been a problem with Hyundai cars.
