I recently lost this car in an accident so felt like I should atleast write a small tribute for it.
Verna over the years have been the symbol of Luxury and Style for us higher middle class people.
we owned the SX variant of the car which had most bells and whistles you'd need in your day to day commute, an exception being navigation which was not an option.
Features:
The Feature list includes an Automatic Air Conditioner system, 4 Speaker Audio system with inbuilt bluetooth and handsfree connectivity, Reverse sensor camera, Auto dimming rear view mirror, steering mounted audio handsfree controls, Tilt steering, driver seat height adjust, cooled glove box, Adjustable Headlamps, very accurate and beautiful dimmable centre information console, driver and rear passenger armrest console with inbuilt cubby holes for your stuff, Sunglass holder, illuminated boot among a few other things.
Style:
Alloy wheels, Sccoped Headlamps, Fog Lamps, Flared arches and very stream lined attractive looks.
Engine:
Butter smooth 128 PS diesel which was never found wanting for power. the best bit about this car.
Mileage:
City: 15-17, Highway 19-21 with AC on.
Boot Space:
It had a humongous 460 liter boot space which is equal to duster and much more than creta( 400 liters)
Tyre life:
Had almost 25% tyre life left at 55K kilometers, 17 inch Bridgestones on this car were outstanding.
Ride and handling:
This is one area the car lacks, the steering feedback is not reassuring and is very very soft. my car got crashed due to this only as the new driver was not used to such soft steering. you'll get used to it soon but be careful when giving the car to a new driver, ask them to get used to steering before doing triple digits.
Comfort & Luxury.
I test drove each car in this segment and can safely say that no other car even comes close in comfort and luxury.
The driver and front passenger seat are heavily scooped and they wrap you around and keep you planted.
Rear seat has ample leg room, although the 5th passenger will seat tight due to the center armrest bulge.
& The plus side of soft steering & smooth powerful engine is that driver fatigue is really low, I recently did 1200 kms in 2 days and wasn't tired when I reached home,
Service cost & Spares
Higher than Maruti but lower than Volkswagen, Never needed any spares, only cost incurred in
this department was when I changed my headlamps to a more powerful 120 watt halogens. yes I forgot to mention the headlamps are not that powerful.
Value for Money
Certainly.
My verdict:
I'd probably but a Verna again. this time the 4S fluidic one. I'd suggest you the same if you're looking for a mid budget family sedan.
