It’s being a little more than a year when I got my first car. Since it was my first did, as usual like others and with the world to explore on Internet, a lot of studies, explored possibilities for a car that would suit my pocket, will have a decent mileage and can accommodate my family of four. Finally decided on Santro Xing (XG) the reason being very simple, the moment I drove the vehicle I just loved the ambience, the car carried along with her.

I won’t go into specifications as that can be easily downloaded from their respective websites.

To begin with the smooth side

The car is quite comfortable and stable at speeds nearing 110 – 120 km/hr, as against the popular believe that it behaves the other way round.

Road view from drivers seat is very nice. Gearshift is some thing I adore and could be rated as best among cars in its class.

Trunk is very spacious and can accommodate a lot of stuff we usually carry while going for outings.

The pick up is good though you can feel a little drag in power with AC switched on. Manual power steering is also quite responsive.

Have clocked almost 15,000 kms till date and baring regular servicing no major faults.

At times I have also carried 6 people in my car for short trips, and though as you can guess the ride was not comfortable, still we could manage with no so much of discomfort.

Have taken my car for long drives around Bangalore and to tell you the drive was every time awesome. Once I have driven at a stretch from morning 8 to 9 in the night with only three of around 45 minutes break.

The best part of Santro Xing is that it you can be very comfortable behind the steering wheel in peak traffic also. It simply Zips ahead and can really make you feel like a king when you move past the traffic with million bucks cars still waiting ;) I believe the same should hold good for Maruti’s Wagon R also.

The one difference that I have noticed among foreign cars is that the finishing par se would be amazing as compared to our Indian counter part. Like few examples would be plastic with rough edges ending suddenly, ORVM will always look cheap, opening and closing of chambers inside the car would always require a lot of muscle.

PS: All comparisons are based on similar genera of cars.

Now as every coin has two sides and every product has both good and bad side, the tough side

The biggest disadvantage of Hyundai cars is that for last two years Hyundai in India has started something where they reduce the price of most of their car species drastically during year-end.

This affects your second hand market of Hyundai cars to a great extent and probably you would be grasping for a suitable buyer and when you get one, the person would quote a funny value for your car and on you protest, the simple response would be … its ok Sir I would wait for few more months when Hyundai will again launch a drastic price cut. And you feel?? You feel like a dumb as*.

Another issue that bugs me with Hyundai is their frequent change of Santro models within short span of time. Latest model being Santro eRLX. Imagine a person trying to sell his 2-21/2 year old Santro Zip (old model) car in today’s market.

The other problem that I faced very often is opening of petrol tank lid, and I had to rush to service center to get is rectified and the problem would again recur with in a month or two.

Rear leg space is little less and Hyundai can probably make the rear seat adjustable (if engineering permits them) so that it can be moved further towards the trunk

Overall its no doubt a very good car and I would love to retain it as long I can afford it ;)

Most of you would be thinking, I did not mention about the mileage part then admirers! It completely depends on how you drive your car. For me it gives around 15km/lt with occasional AC and 22-23km/lt on Highways.

The same car when my cousin drives gives around 11km/lt on city!! Amazing isn’t it?
