This is my first review on mouthshut! I have been forced to write this review due to my love "Santro Xing!". I became the proud owner of Santro Xing XO of "scarlet sage" colour in Apr 2006 from then I just enjoyed the drive in and around city. This car is great value for money product. before deciding to purchase Santro, I had a test drive of Maruti Wagon R. But I discarded the product in look at first sight! So rather talking about wagon R lets see how Satro is better than other models!

The dealer's executives were very supportive and showed me all the features and detailed me about the specs. Though I used to drive my friends Satro Xing , I didn't asked for a test drive. Overall the looks of car is very good infact better than the box shape wagon R (I doono how that car passed the aerodynamics test and Thank god, Hyundai finally came up with Xing and discontinued the old model, otherwise I wouln't have purchased it!).Also I would like to mentioned one this is about its varients.

The XO option is worth the deal cause it has both front & rear power windows, rear parcel tray, rear viper with wash, inernally adujstable rear view mirrors(both sides), rear window defogger (u really need it in rainy season), good seat fabrics, hidden parcel tray under driver seat, body colour bumpers, crome grill, cluch footrest and all this comes with mere 20000/- more than its previous model XP.

The dealer offered me lot of freebies (mud flaps, matts, leather streering cover, leather gear knob and cover etc.) with hefty cash discount. I have completed all the 3 free services. The dealer co-operation is very good, they really service the car which is noticable in performance. 3 medium sized people can comfortably accommodated in rear seats. Leg space is also very good as compared to wagon R.

Also you don't have to drill anything to fit car spears at rear portions, as the facility is already provided by Hyundai, just screw the speaker, get the cable extended and its ready. (unless off course you are not going to fit any woofer).

Well, the response of the engine is very good, but you have to shift very quickly from 1st to 2nd gear as the first gear can't handle high revs! The main thing good about the car is torque, you can just lift of your leg from accelerator and car moves on in its predefined torque.

The main thing good about the car is torque, you can just lift of your leg from accelerator and car moves on in its predefined torqe. This is specially noticable in 1st and 2nd gear. In traffic or bumpy road, just put this baby in 1st and 2nd gear and relax. it will move at certain speed (say 5-10KMPH in 1st and 10-15KMPH in 2nd).

This also saves the wearing of clutch plate! The pick up is good in 3rd and 4th gear when you really want to cruise. The breaks are powerful.I tried the car at max. speed upto 145 KMPH (the throttle fully pressed), no burdon on engine and though speedo reads 180 KMPH it can not reach that much of speed. But one this is sure, being a small car, the driver can feel little insecure at this high speed. So I suggest the 110-120 is good speed to drive on expressway or freeways.

The cooling of AC is fabulous and the drive is very silent while all windows up. About the milege, the car gives 14-15( 13-14 with AC) in city and 18-19 (17-18 with AC) on highways. So AC doesn't load the engine much. I even got the milege of 21 with AC on highway when drive at a constant speed of 80KMPH. So if you really want good fuel economy on long drive 80 is the best speed to drive. But in any case whatever the condition you won't get the milege below 13. So all thumbs up for milege.

Also one more thing I want to share about this car (which was told by Hyundai service engineer and I tried this also), that this car has a chip which stores your driving pattern. So if your car is driven only by you, then u'll get good fuel economy. If many people are driving the car then feul economy will get reduced. (I have given the car to my friend for 15 days and the milege was down by 3 to 4 KMPL as he was very rash driver). It took nearly 1 and half month when the chip stored the data according my driving habits.

So take care that it should be single handed. I am very disappointed with the location of rear power window buttons.(They are located in middle of rear seats little behind front seats) So rear passenger has to put efforts while pressing those buttons. The buttons should be in rear doors instead.Another thing is Santro should have digital tacho and tripmeter with rev counter which is not currently present. This feature is available in all the Hyundai models except Santro. But again this is not a important feature, only thing is, it is surprising that the other competitor model gives this option in same segment.

So I am sure that Santro is really a good choice if your budget is between 3 to 4 lacs. A very good family car and real comfort while driving in city traffic. In 1st and 2nd gear.
