I bought Santro ERLX 9(model XL)in Feb 2006. The car has been driven for 17K kms .This is my conclusion for the product.
The cars rear is noisy when u r driving alone and on a bad road. It sounds like a rickshaw. I got the rear shockers changed but the problem still persists. The average it gives is 12 kmpl and if u go for 97 octane speed petrol - its average reduces to 10 or 11 kmpl at the max.
I get my tank completely filled at 31 ltrs and it covers anywhere between 320 kms to 350 kms with most driving in cty.
AND NOW THE MISTERY PROBLEM.
This Cars AC is disgusting. It has a strange problem - when u r driving in peak summer and leave the accelerator pedal while changing gears or waiting at idle RPM at Red light or when moving in a crowded place where u offen press clutch and idle the engine, the compressor turns off. Incase u donot detect this in time the relay blows off. I have been facing this problem right from day one.
Have shown this to all good dealers in delhi and still the problem persists.Hyundai motor plaza -Delhi kept my car for 2 days at their workshop - ultimately what they did was increase the idle RPM like it was done in old carburrated Maruti 800. If I can remember - during last 1and half year of driving santro - I have gone 10 times with same problem - gas refilled in compressor 5 times and fuse blown off twice during peak summer which is really trouble some.
And here I am - still fighting with the problem. The bottom line is that these people are themselves clueless about it and have ben experimenting with it. And when I threatened the hyundaI motor plaza ppl about writing letter to Hyundai about this - their reply was - SIR THATS YOUR RIGHT, WE ARE DOING OUR BEST.
The only good thing is the smooth engine which takes the vehicle to 160 KMPH on broad open highways and acceleration through the gears.
Finally I am planning to sell it off and buy swift. Reason are broadly 2 in number: -
- Extent of customer satisfaction is high.
2 Maruti's products are tried and tested.
Hope this will be of some use to ppl who are planning to buy santro and use it primarily for city driving.
