This is the first time I am writing a review on Mouthshut. Before purchasing my car, I did a lot of research. Mouthshut has always been a great source for first hand reviews and it really helped me in zeroing-on on my getz.

My expectations from my car were:

· Space and lots of space.

· Back seat comfort.

· Budget was 5 lakh.

· Since I have a dog, I was looking for a small car which should have completely foldable back seat, where he can travel comfortably.

· Mileage of around 12-13 in city driving.

Prior to purchasing my getz I looked into Swift, Palio and i10 kappa.

· Swift was good and sporty, but I did not like the space in the back seat and also the back seats were not completely foldable(no 60:40). The car feels dark from inside.

· I liked Palio. It has lot of space inside. Built quality is pretty robust. It delivers great mileage too. But somehow my wife did not like the dated interior. She felt it looked cheap. Hence had to drop it from the list as well.

· i10 is a good car. Has good space inside for a car of its size. It looks very modern too. Still we were reluctant for the non-foldable back seat and the beige dash. I did not like the top part of the dash being beige. It reflected pretty badly on the front windshield while I was taking a test drive and I felt very uncomfortable.

I purchased my car on 16th Aug 2008 from Trident Hyundai on Hosur road. The dealer experience had been really excellent. They delivered the car exactly on the day promised. Before the delivery they performed a puja and give me a small box of chocolate. They also took a picture of me with my car to send it to me later(which they did). I was impressed by their professionalism and the way they handle the customers. The free accessories which I got with my car were floor mats, mud flaps, Panasonic music system(which I replaced with a Sony one). I took the seat covers, sun film and anti-rust coating from the dealer itself. Including everything I had to pay 5.10 lac for my car.

Till date I have driven my car for around 2200 kms. Probably this is the right time to write a few words about my car.

Now coming to the specifications of the car itself, its a Getz Prime 1.1 GVS.

Interior:

  • Dual tone interior(Beige and grey)

  • Power steering(tilt)

  • All 4 power windows

  • cup holders

  • coin holder

  • Remote boot opener / Remote fuel tank lead opener

  • Reclining back seat(upto 15 degree)

  • Split folding back seats with 60:40 options

Exterior:

  • Color: Onyx Blue

  • Body colored bumpers

  • Body side molding

  • Spoiler

  • HMSL

  • 175/60 tires

Now let me jot down the merits and the demerits of this car:

Merits:

  • I love the decent looks. It is a real beauy for me.

  • Lot of space inside. Feels very airy and bright from inside. Probably the beige interior contributes to this aspect as well. It really feels like a big car.

  • Reclining back seat is a very unique feature and pretty useful too.

  • Very good boot space. The split folding and the 60:40 folding feature creates lot more space for a weekend getaway as well.

  • Decent mileage. Around 12 km with AC inside city. I would have loved another couple of more kms per liter for a 1.1 ltr car though.

  • Loved the features like tilt steering and coin holder. Also it has lot of cubby holes to hold your little belongings.

  • The car is a very silent mover. Numerous times I have tried to switch on the ignition in traffic signals when the engine is already running.

  • Gear shift is butter smooth. You can operate the lever literally with your little finger

  • Good suspensions. Once I took the car to Sivasamudram. We were 4 persons in the car. The road is full of pot-holes and u-turns. It is really a driver's nightmare. However, the car(suspensions) took it really well. After almost the 300 km drive(to and fro), we were not that tired when we came back. Speaks volumes about the cars nice suspension and ride quality.

  • The top speed I attained with this car was 130 kmph(on Mysore road and airport road). The car did not run out of steam. I did not dare to push it harder:-)

  • Steering is little on lighter side. However, it handles very well. Does not spring any surprises when you drive it. It drives exactly the way it should be. I call her my obedient daughter:-D

  • A very useful illuminated glove box. Helps a lot when you are driving in the night and need to retrieve something from the glove box.

Demerits:

Hmmm. This is the difficult part.

  • Probably the plastic quality on the dash could have been better. I don’t like the fake wood in the centre console.

  • The AC is decent. But definitely there is space for improvement.

  • Pick up is decent in city traffic. It won’t win you any drag race. You would wish it to be little more powerful while driving in the highways and trying to overtake some very fast moving buses and trucks.

  • Brakes could provide little more bite.

  • Head lamps are not the best in terms of brightness. I love their slanting looks though:-)

  • Mileage could be little better for this 1.1ltr car.

  • Pull at lower gears is a concern though. After a speed-breaker most of the time u need to shift to 2nd gear.

  • Space inside the glove box is nothing to write home about. Could have been little bigger.

Till now, it has not given me any troubles and its always very well mannered.touchwood. I hope she always stays the same with me. I am planning to take her once to my hometown(In Bhubaneswar, Orissa). A 1600 km drive would surely be a pretty interesting one. Once I do that I will update this space again with lot more about my journey.

Please put comments and let me know if I missed anything of interest in my first review.

Ciao.
