Not good enough. Review on Hyundai Getz

Let me tell you I owned a santro earlier.At time I bought santro, there was matiz too which was a better overall car than santro except its 200cc smaller engine.But we opted for Hyundai as hyundai was able to market its product well, in guise of shahrukh khan.but I dont think that we made a wrong decision as santro gave no problems(feb 99 model) and sold as hot cakes, to boost our confidence.The market was new and santro hit the jackpot at the right time.

Now, people will buy santro becoz they know that it is a best selling product,not seeing that its best selling is not becoz of its being best in the segement but becoz others are buying santro.Though I must say that I loved my car but still I cant compare it with palio or Indica when I think of things they offer in what I pay to them.

It had some qualities though, like city manoverability,tight turning circle and spares available(thought not as cheap as one is let to believe) Than Accent came and tried to bask on the success of santro.It was a good car, promised to be better than Esteem and a new model in market.It flourished.People thought because other people are buying it, it is a good buy.

Auto magazines like autocar india are too afraid to go against Hyundai in their article,because they know that public will buy this product not because it is the best, but because others are buying it.Even after some time Ford Ikon was available in same price range,Accent continued to sell due to its cosmetics and roominess.

Getz was launched on the hype of Hyundai again.Now, it is a serious attempt: a hatchback in price range of cars as good as Esteem(which has a truly class engine),Ikon Flair(comfortable,solid josh machine).What getz offered was space, good interiors,Hyundai brand name(hype of hyundai hoped them to think they can make customer pay through their nose). I am not speaking against Getz, it has good paint finish, nice looks, space, Gear shift (its one of best I have used,better than competition)interiors.But what it lacks is

1 Poor AC It was the first thing that struck me.AC is good when you are driving it at night, but waste when it is scorching heat outside.I asked the dealer of Hans Hyundai(delhi) ,he replied that it is true that AC of Getz is not very good.But he said that it cools good when it is not much hot outside.

What is this?Cant they provide a good AC(Santro's ACis much better)?A poor AC is worse than no AC at all as you dont have to pay for it.

Once summers come you will see several customers of Getz complaining.It was launched in october, and hasnt yet put on test on this front.Autocar in its review wrote a single line:''AC is also so-so''.Overdrive didnt mention it at all,no talk about AC as if AC is not fitted in it.From who are they hiding the facts?

2. Poor engine Hyundai's petrol engines are not that good as others(santro's engine is an exception, to some extent).If you see the difference between the paper facts and real world performance, you will find that Koreans are the worst in this.Ford Ikon 1.6 with 91 bhp is like a rocket in comparison to Accent Tornado 1.6 with 102 bhp.Just drive both and you will tell which one has more power.

Getz carries reputation to future.It has poor pick up from 1300 CC, 84 bhp. There is no surge in the engine and you will be disappointed if you have driven Ford Ikon or esteem and realise that these koreans are making fool out of its customers.Yeah, it has got weight,but its ony 100 kg more than Ikon flair;but the power loss you feel is tremendous.The engine sounds noisy when rev hard and runs out of breath when taken out on highway.

3 Poor Value What you are buying is a hatchback in price of a sedan;remember?But Hyundai's dont care about this...what they give is thin tyres, no music system, and you wonder if omission of boot alone wasnt sufficient.Than you are not in as comfort as you sit in Ikon, not as good engine as esteem you are upto, and brand image is a no-no when you consider it as a 5 lac car. I am sure its sales after initial high will come down.

Even if you think that the good interiors and inner space are enough to buy this car, just imagine what would be the price of a sedan if made out of it?According to market perceptions, the cost of a sedan is 20% more than its hatchback.So if you buy this car at 5 lac, its sedan version will cost you 6 lakhs, putting it above Ford Ikon 1.6, Fiat Petra,Maruti Baleno,Opel Corsa(remember it is still 1300cc) .Dont you think that it is too much????

Better Hyundai reduce its price now, as it has to when Swift will be launched.
