I've been using the Accent CRDi for around 2 years now. My job involves a lot of city driving and my car has done around 45,000 Km in this time. Even after 2 years the car runs extremely well, with noise levels being quite low. Ive experienced no problems with the engine too, in spite of it being a diesel..(even in the fierce Delhi winters)
The pickup of the CRDi is absolutely fabulous and the breathtaking peformance is truly 'petrol bashing'! The engine carries around 85 bhp of power and the Common Rail Direct Injection mechanism removes the "diesel car feel" to a large extent.
The mileage is really good - around 11 kmpl in the city and 15 on the highway.
The gear ratios are a bit different from the Accent GVS and the car doesnt really accept a switch into the 5th until its is cruising at 90 Kmph or more....It takes a bit of time to switch from 1st to 2nd but once its in 2nd I dont think there are many cars which can beat the performance of the CRDi.
The steering is great and the manouvrability is better than the Lancer /Honda City or the Optra. The gearshift is smooth and effective and the suspension is average - not great.
Noise levels within the car are moderate for a diesel engine although there is some vibration which may take some getting used to.
Braking is excellent. The car has a nice solid feel, although the Opel Astra Club I used to drive earlier felt more sturdy and took sharper curves at higher speeds.
The car feels well in control even at speeds of 165 Kmph (the highest I have taken it), and is more than capable of overtaking the Skoda Octavia or the Hyundai Sonata on a 5 lane expressway!
The air conditioning is certainly above average.
The only drawback would be the long waiting list for having the car serviced by Hyundai..
The final verdict from a seasoned CRDi driver? At 7.27 Lac , its simply the best car in its category! Nothing even comes close! Also the most satisfying diesel vehicle on the Indian roads.
Its better than the City ZX, Optra, Esteem, Opel Astra and Lancer Cedia.
