I love of exotic Indian food especially the Hyderabadi cuisine which has of a wide range of delicious non-vegetarian delicacies. Their choice of aromatic spices and interesting method of preparation set them apart from other states.

Hyderabad House, is a popular joint down south.  In Bangalore they have has two outlets, one at Gandhinagar and the other at Koramangala(opp Forum). I used to visit it monthly.

“Right seasoning and authentic ingredients are the secret behind the success of Hyderabad House, ” says Mir Mazaruddin, MD of this food outlet chain. Established in the year 1975 by the late Mir Baber Ali, the chain boasts of chefs and cooks who are the descendants of the erstwhile Nawab’s cooks. In addition to the take-away service, they also undertake catering contracts for corporates and outdoor catering for events and conferences. I was a regular customer till these people raised their prices to madness. “We prepare biryani using the traditional dum pukht method which gives it a flavour and aroma that is quite distinct from the biryani prepared normally in small quantities, ” says Mazaruddin explaining the reason for the unique flavour of the Hyderabadi food. “We offer the best of biryani, haleem, and desserts of Hyderabad - qubani ka meetha and double ka meetha, ” he adds.

Sadly he thinks most of the bangloreans are idiots who will pay exorbitant prices for a piece of bread. I really wonder what's wrong with places like HH, Imperial and Empire. Everyone thinks people will happily pay 200 bucks for a gravy.

Lamb is the best bet in the non-vegetarian hyderabadi dishes. Typical Hyderabadi food is not as spicy as Andhra food. This is evident when one tries their biryani, nehari and haleem - the traditional favourites of Hyderabadis.

Hyderabad House serves excellent Biryani(150 bucks for full- 7 weeks back it was 90 bucks) and Haleem(Rs 80 - 7 weeks back Rs 50).  Hyderabad House also serves some good vegetarian items like bagara baigan, mirchi ka salan, and tomato kutt. It also boasts of a wide range of dals, chutneys and pickles.

At Hyderabad House, the taste comes at a pathetic price. You can have a plate of mutton rogan josh for for Rs 130(previously Rs 65) while the take-away price is even more.

So now when you feel like tasting the food of the Nizams, do visit this place. The taste is good, sadly the prices are more and the quantity has become lesser.
