For a chain of restaurants with the dubious claim of serving authentic Hyderabadi Biryani, Hyderabad House deserves to be kicked out of the city.
I had lunch/dinner many times and after the most recent lunch, I have decided to not risk my health anymore even at the cost of fainting of hunger.
I entered the restaurant (Road No. 2, Banjara Hills) at approx. 3 PM on 8 November 2012. I ordered a CB (Chicked Biryani) and a Pepsi. The food arrived in 4 installments. Mirchi Ka Salan, followed by the Biryani, followed by the Pepsi, followed by the Raitha.
The salan was so salty, I bet you could float an egg on it.The Biryani was dry. Now I like food that is not too greasy and moderated in spice, but this was taking it to an extreme. Biryani so dry, I felt as if I was eating brick-dust. The fact the biryani lacked flavour, taste and any kind of aroma, made it worse. Even the cursory green coriander was dispensed with. The chicken piece on offer was probably donated by the chicken itself (in return for a stay along with Kasab). You get the message.
The coke was served in a plastic glass and it probably measured about 100ml.
The Raitha which arrived just as I was finishing the meal was sour and put to shame the lemon pieces that were served with rough-cut raw onions in the guise of salad.
Not only the billing for this abysmal meal take 10 minutes to materialize and cost Rs. 204/-, the waiter omitted to return Rs. 300/- as change!
I could of course go back and pick a fight or just pray to god that he has the sense to spend it on his wife and kids.
And that he does not take them to Hyderabad House.
