Cool Band... Great Album

Originality:

Are you sick of hearing Limp Bizkit, Korn, and System of a Down (etc.) scream their lungs out over a bunch of nothing? Would you like to hear a band that gives you a mix of music genres including: rock, metal, and hip-hop? Are you sick of hearing tons of curse words on music albums? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Linkin Park is band for you! Linkin Park may have the appearance of being just another heavy metal/hard-rock band, but they give better quality than most of those other hard-rock/metal bands. Another thing I like about Linkin Park is that they offer a bit of everything. When I say everything, I am talking about rock, metal, and rap/hip-hop (whatever you want to call it). Oh yes, and for the concerned parents….there are no curse words on the entire CD! That’s pretty odd to find no curse words on a rock bands album these days, isn’t it?

Reasons I love Hybrid Theory:

• I like pretty much all genres of music. And Linkin Park gives pretty much a bit of everything (except country and pop).

• I like songs that actually have some sort of meaning.

• Linkin Park actually makes quality music.

• There are absolutely no curse words at all.

Songs

The album starts out with the song, Papercut, which is a good introduction for Hybrid Theory, but there are better songs on this album. The song has a hard rock/hip-hop feel to it. Mike Shinoda’s “rapping” and the hard rock music playing in the background gives this song a neat feel to it. My favorite part of Papercut would be:

The sun goes down, I feel the light betray me…

Anyway, I don’t want to bore you by listing every single song there is on the album, but I will list some of my favorites on the album. Probably my favorite song on the album would probably have to be In the End. I pick this song as my favorite because I believe that this song has the most meaning. The meaning (I believe) is that everyone should make the best of life, because life is short. Yet, another interpretation I found was that---yes, achieving and accomplishing goals in life is great, but what’s it matter in the end (meaning death). Here is the chorus of In the End (I am sure you have probably heard it on the radio before):

I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn’t even matter. I had to fall to lose it all, but in the end, it doesn’t even matter.

Some of my other favorites include: With You, One Step Closer, Crawling, A Place for My Head, and Pushing Me Away.

The only song that really seems to set itself from the rest would probably be Cure for the Itch. The reason it is different is (A) there’s no words (B) it’s a lot mellower than the rest of the album. This is my least favorite song on the whole album, but it seems to cool you down from all of the other loud songs.

Recommendations

I would recommend this album to children ages 10 and up. There are no curse words (as you are probably getting sick of me saying by now) and would probably be appropriate for any age. But if I had kids, I would probably let them listen to this when they are somewhere around the age of ten. I don’t know if adults would like this CD as much as kids and teenagers would. Hybrid Theory might be a little too “hardcore” for the average adult. But that’s just my opinion.

Likes and Dislikes

I like the quality of this CD (and pretty much everything else, as I have stated above), but the quantity is not so great. The entire album is only thirty-seven minutes long. Well, I guess I’ll just have to wait for Linkin’s next album before I can here some more. Looking forward to Linkin Park’s next album!
