Hum Tum is not all that good as it is made out to be. For starters I had a lot of expectations from the movie as the director (Kunal kohli) had mentioned in his interviews that people can look forward to lots of humour and romance in the movie. But thats not how it is unfortunately.

Venue:

Cinewonder(thane). I have?nt been to this place ever and was surprised to find that it is pretty good. Its fashioned like fun republic of Andheri and has the regular mall ambience replete with fountains, eateries, shops, the works. Tickets were sold out but we managed to get the tickets somehow.

The movie:

The movie starts of with Karan and Rhea meeting in Amsterdam followed by New york, Paris, Delhi and Mumbai. The fights between the two central characters seems contrived and not entertaining. The movie then follows their lives through different cities, settings and phases in their lives. Basically it all boils down to how Karan and Rhea finally understand that they have over the years become good friends and fallen in love with each other.

About the cast :

Saif has some good lines in the initial half which keep you in splits. But the problem is that he is stuck with his naughty-never-serious-about-life image. He needs to experiment with something else. Rani is ok but she excels in scenes where she has to emote through her eyes. But the surprise performances are from Rishi kapoor who plays Saif's father and Kiron kher who plays Rani's punjabi mom in the movie. Kiron plays her part to perfection and you definetly identify with her punjabi mannerisms, language and overall dialogues. Rishi kapoor also makes a good impression as a liberal dad who has demons of his own past to overcome. There are some additional characters but they are wasted in their miniscule roles.

Songs:

The songs are good especially the title track ''bahon main'' and ''chak de''. Bahon main especially is picturised well.

Dialogues:

The dialogues are ok but could have been much better since its a romantic movie. One dialogue which stood out was when Saif lands up at Rani's house for a late snack and they have a mock arranged wedding scenario scene. No particular dialogue is worth remembering as you walk out of the theatre.

The cartoon characters Hum and Tum:

These two characters are very cute and have been appearing in Bombay Times as a comic strip for some days now. The essentially engage in a battle of the sexes but in a very cute manner. Whoever has thought of and created these characters has done a wonderful job. Methinks the cartoon characters have more chemistry than the lead actors.

Finally:

The movie can be seen on a lazy saturday or sunday afternoon .Do not go with high expectations and you never know you might just like what you see. Overall ''hum tum'' is good in bits and parts.
