When Karan met Rhea!!!. Review on Hum Tum

What can one expect from ?Yash Raj Films?,other than light-hearted,romantic film.Their latest product ?Hum Tum? is no different.It has songs,romance and everything what a ?typical? Yash Raj Films has to consist of.Though,it is a typical Yash Raj Films stuff,still it is entertaining.Though,there is a Saif Ali Khan of a flirtatious nature-the role which he plays in every film,still it is entertaining.Though,there is a glamorous looking Rani Mukherji,still it is entertaining.The film may seem clichéd,but it is still a feel good film.There are some movies which by the time they end,make you feel as if you had a nice and a pleasant time for 3 hours.?Hum Tum? is also one of those films.

THE FILM:

Yash Raj Films.?Hum Tum?, directed by Kunal Kohli, stars Saif Ali Khan,Rani Mukherjee,Kiron Kher, Rishi Kapoor and has lots of special appearances by Abhishek Bachchan, Jimmy Shergill, Isha Koppikar and Shehnaz Treasurywalla.This film is said to be a remake of ?When Harry Met Sally?. Now, the point which is to be noted is how a film critic,that also a film critic like Kunal Kohli, directs it in a complete ?Yash Raj Films? ?ishtyle?.

THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:

1.Karan Kapoor(Saif Ali Khan):Karan Kapoor is a cartoonist,who believes that the world is divided into two-male and female and that,there are many differences between them,but one day his animated characters turn into real life characters. Saif Ali Khan does the same thing again which he has done in several films-acting cool and flirting with girls,still he manages to give out an excellent performance,without giving you the feeling of déjà vu.His face expressions are quite natural and he seems easy doing this kind of a role.Though,his role is nothing different than his previous roles,still he doesn`t seem disinterested,but I wonder what has happened to his hairstyle? Doesn`t he look odd?But after all, this is his ?TOM CRUISE? look.

1. Rhea Prakash(Rani Mukherji): Rhea Prakash, is a girl-next-door kind of a character. Like any other girl,even she has that ?attitude? problem and she loves to argue or mess up with Karan.Rani Mukherji has yet again,given us a wonderful performance. In the first half,she does a brilliant job,in the humorous scenes and in the second half,she deals equally well with the emotional scenes.She makes a good pair with Saif Ali Khan and shares a good screen chemistry with him.With this film,she will be more in demand.She looks good,with those short hair,in the start,I must admit.

Others are also excellent. Kiron Kher,as Rhea`s mother is lovable. After playing Zayed`s mom in ?Main Hoon Na?, she yet again gives a good account of herself as Rani`s mom.

Rishi Kapoor who seemed disinterested in his last films like ?Tehzeeb? and Kucch To Hai?,after a long time seems interested in a project,without giving you the feeling as if he has done this film just for the heck of it.

Rati Agnihotri who made everyone laugh at her, as a ?tantrik? in ?Krishna Cottage?, is passable this time.

Abhishek Bachchan has made a record.For three consecutive weeks he has given new releases and for three consecutive weeks, I've reviewed his films.Even in a special appearance,he does his job with sincerity.I think that from every ?Yash Chopra film?,we should expect special appearances.I n ?Dil To pagal Hai?,there was a special appearance by Akshay Kumar.In ?Mohabbatein? there was a special appearance by Aishwariya Rai.In ?Mere yaar Ki Shaadi Hai?,there were special appearances by Bipasha Basu and Shamita Shetty. In ?Saathiya?,there were special appearances by Shahrukh Khan and Tabu.In ?Mujhse Dosti Karoge? there was a special appearance by Uday Chopra.In this film too there are dozen of special appearances.

Jimmy Shergill after his brief role in ?Munnabhai MBBS,does a good job in a special appearance,again.

Isha Koppikar is just about okay.Shehnaz Treasurywalla is irritating.I wonder where she has gone after ?Ishq Vishk??

THE STORY:

Karan Kapoor is a cartoonist,who believes that the world is divided into two:?Hum?(I) and ?Tum?(You).There is a section,in a leading newspaper,called ?Hum Tum?,where he draws two animated characters,a boy and a girl.In this column,he points out differences between the male species and the female species.One fine day,when Karan is going to the USA,he meets Rhea Prakash,in the flight.The flight stops at Amsterdam for some hours,where Karan and Rhea have lots of arguments.As Karan is such a big flirt,he kisses Rhea and this annoys Rhea no end,and so,this meeting ends up in a mess.After some months,Karan and Rhea meet again in New York.Rhea hasn`t forgotten the kiss episode and so she is ready to take revenge.Due to her,Karan has a break-up with his girlfriend.Now,after some years,they meet again,but this time the story gets a bit more serious.During these years,Rhea gets married and also turns into a widow.That`s when Karan and Rhea are drawn towards each other.There is something between them.What is between them?Together,they explore the relation they share.

THE WORK OF THE CREW:

Kunal Kohli is back as a director,again with the Yash raj films banner,with a much better product than the disastrous ?Mujhse Dosti Karoge?.Though,this film has nothing new in it,still it succeeds to keep the viewers interest alive,thanks to the good direction by Kunal Kohli.He has handled the comedy scenes,very well and succeeds in entertaining you.By the time,the film reaches at the post-interval you can relate so well with Karan`s and Rhea`s characters that you are hooked up to the screen.
