There is a very common saying in English - OLD IS GOLD, and HUM HAIN RAHI PYAR KE more than proves it - whether it is the movie plot, acting, comedy, music - everything. I am not a movie buff, but do have a list of some movies(rare gems), which I cannot resist watching repeatedly, and I am proud to say thatHUM HAIN RAHI PYAR KE belongs to the same list as well - another gem of a movie fromMahesh Bhatt after his 1991 blockbuster, DIL HAI KE MANTA NAHIN. HUM HAIN RAHI PYAR KE went on to become a blockbuster as well. This is actually the title of a timeless, evergreen classic song, sung by Kishore Kumar, pictured on Dev Anand in a black and white classic 1957 movie - NAU DO GYARAH - that's where the name of this movie comes from.Ever since its release in 1993, I have watched this movie countless number of times, and still enjoy watching it, without getting bored at all. I can guarantee the same for all those who have seen this movie or planning on seeing it soon.

Most of Aamir Khan's movies have always stood out of the crowd and out of all actresses he has worked with, his pairing with Juhi Chawla is the best - a fine and naturally talented actress having a feel of simplicity, and innocence in her acting apart from her sweet and innocent looks, appearance, smile, and superb comic timings. Let all actresses wear lehenga chunnis/saris and make them stand in a queue - I am sure Juhi will look the best. Her facial expressions are very natural. In any comic scene, it is not only the situation, but also her naughty but sweet expressions that will make you laugh. While most of the former Miss Indias have willingly adapted vulgarity in the name of glamour in most of their movies, Juhi has managed to stay out of that crowd(Another such example is that of Meenakshi Sheshadri). In this movie, both Aamir and Juhi have given one of their best performances. The way Juhi acts like a kid with the 3 kids, is indeed hilarious. The instances where she speaks Tamil, she looks naturally hilarious and sweet too. Her other hilarious scenes are her conversations with the dancer Natrajan(Natrajan, tum train mein paida hue the kya? Tum hile bagair baat nahi kar sakte?), stealing pakodas at the MELA, confusion when told to sing for the east west airlines prize at the same MELA, hiding with the three kids at their house, addressing Aamir Khan as Mamaji, etc. The comedy is so natural and sweet that you just can't stop laughing at all these scenes. Aamir Khan acts superbly in comic roles as well - this movie is another example of this fact. No one could have done justice in a better way than Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, to their respective roles. However, the most hilarious scene in the movie is of the night when Chhotya the thief(Javed Khan), Maya - Bijlani's daughter(Navneet Nishan), and Mishra(Mushtaque Khan) enter Aamir Khan's house at the same time, for stealing, romance and showing 4 kids to Aamir Khan, respectively. The resulting chaos and confusion will make you laugh spontaneously. Juhi also acts brilliantly like a matured woman when she successfully controls the pranks of the three mischievous children and offers to help Aamir in coming out of the crisis of getting his house and factory auctioned. All the three kids have also acted brilliantly, and so have Dilip Tahil, and Mushtaque Khan(Humara full name BP Mishra hai. Hum Japan se training lekar aaya hoon), with his hilarious English.

This review will be incomplete without a mention of the mesmerizing, mind blowing music of this movie. One of the best scores of NADEEM SHRAVAN indeed. This duo is unbeatable - even an Oscar winning music director is no match for them. Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik have given elite singing performances. However, one of the songs - YUNHI KAT JAYEGA SAFAR has been copied from a famous english song - LOVELY LADY OF ARCADIA, sung by DEMIS ROUSSOS, a famous Greek singer, but still the former sounds way more melodious than the latter. After all, 'NAKAL KE LIYE BHI AKAL CHAHIYE'. The song GHOONGHAT KI AAD SE - made Alka Yagnik a very common household name. This is a timeless classic, evergreen song. These are songs which people still listen to, repeatedly, without getting bored. Sadhana Sargam got only one song in this movie - a sad song - WOH MERI NEEND MERA CHAIN MUJHE LAUTA DO, but she has sung brilliantly as well. All songs are absolutely fantabulous. For the fourth consecutive year, NADEEM SHRAVAN were nominated for the Filmfare best music director Award for this movie, which they narrowly missed to ANU MALIK(for BAAZIGAR). Had they won it, it would have been their fourth consecutive filmfare award(they had already won it 3 consecutive times in 1991, 1992, and1993, forAASHIQUI, SAAJAN, and DEEWANArespectively).

This is a movie which won both filmfare and national awards - It won the best movie and director awards in filmfare. Juhi Chawla got her first filmfare best actress award for this movie. Sameer got the best lyricist award for'GHOONGHAT KI AAD SE'. Aamir Khan was also nominated in the best actor category, which he narrowly missed to Shahrukh Khan(for BAAZIGAR). Mahesh Bhatt got the National film special jury award for this movie. Alka Yagnik got the SILVER LOTUS in National film awards for the song'GHOONGHAT KI AAD SE'.

If you have not watched this movie as yet, help yourself out with a VCD/DVD and surely watch it. This movie is worth watching as many times as possible and enjoying with your entire family. It has no complicated story line - a very simple, sweet, cute, straight forward, 100% non-vulgar, and hilarious movie.
