Hukka N Tikka The Name didn’t impress. The Place itself doesn’t have much of a seating area. But it home delivers delicious fare. Quick, piping hot and the pricing is a surprise. I would never have given this place a second look with its dark and shady frontage and a name that adds to the confusion. I just happened to halt there to pick up some medicines from a shop next door on junction of 16th Rd., and 30th.Rd., Bandra and picked up its home delivery menu flyer.
On an impulse, being a lazy Sunday, I took a chance and ordered a couple of dishes and was surprised with the taste and preparation. Delicious with thick and richly endowed gravy. At a price that’s a delight in these times of rising costs. The cuisine is indefatigable because they seem to serve almost just about everything from typical Punjabi dishes to Mughlai and even Chinese. This place seems to be quite a hit with the singles, bachelors and the youngsters who are out on a shoe string budget or down on pocket money.
Biryani by the kilo can be an appetizing idea for an impromptu get together of friends. Chicken Biryani at INR 1000/- for 3 kg of Chicken and 5 kg of rice good enough to satisfy 25 to 30 voracious eaters. Or one can also opt for just a kilo at INR350/- (i.e. 1kg Chicken and 2 kg Rice) good enough for about 10 people.
Veg Biryani for INR 50 less. Fish/Prawns/Mutton Biryani for INR450/- per kg. A good variety in barbecue skewered on hot live coals like the Afghani Kebabs at INR 65/- a portion. Vegetarians can relish the ‘aatish aloo’(potatoes marinated and skewered or ‘paneer tikka’ (cottage cheese barbecued) A lot of sea food delicacies like Lobsters, pomfret (a Bombay speciality) and Prawns. I would personally recommend Chicken Tiranga or Noorani Tikka..melt in your mouth variety. The usual fare in practically all restaurants comprise the tava masala, the Hydrabadi, the shahi kormas, the jalfrezi, the rogan josh – I could rattle off names off the menu like the Irani restaurant waiter..but then why don’t you pick up the phone and order some for home delivery.
The portions are reasonable, well packed in plastic containers and sealed with cellophane tape to avoid spillage. Piping hot, tad greasy, but thick with aroma and deliciously sumptuous. Call them on 3952-6210, 3952-3280 or 93243-48718 Bon appetit !
