Although the test is for 3 hrs but it almost happens to be of something around 4 or 4and ½ hours stretch. Well let me explain why!

It is a paper based, seven section , multiple-choice test with questions testing u on your verbal and quantitative skills.

Verbal Sections

Analogies-19 questions, Sentence completion-19 questions, Critical reading-40Q

Math sections

Problem solving -35 questions quantitative comparison-15 questions,

Student-produced response-10 questions

Now the time one is literally taking the test is 3 hrs but u have to come to the class room where the test is going to be conducted & sit for at least half an hour before & then between the seven sections you do get the 5 or 10 minutes breaks. Hence it boils down to total of 4.5 hrs or more.

Why I am stressing on the time is that ?all students while taking the practice test at home might be doing it for 3 hrs but the real day those extra hours takes a toll with all that tensions & strain.

The exam as such is easy (math part) for any average Indian student with a preparation for 2-3 months. English (spl the words will take longer!)

Hence a few pointers to all who are preparing the SAT

1.They are changing the pattern in 2005 with the inclusion of essay part.hence be sure u have updated your knowledge of the test.

2.Math probs of the test are pretty easy as in just 10th standard questions. English prep takes more time .don?t postpone doing some wordlist till the last week.

3.Generally the exams are during the early morning hours of the day. SO change your sleeping time adjusted according to the exam time. And also be sure you make your brain work during those hours of the morning. This is the mistake I made.

Since I would always study from 10 am onwards my brain was set that way. But my exam was from 7.30 on the morning.my brain dint feel fresh during the first few hours of the test. If your brain happens to work like mine be sure to change ur sleeping & study time according to ur exam time . Give your brain a month or fortnight to adjust & respond to the new routine.

4While you are taking the practice test at home, be sure to go back & do an analysis of the test & your answers. So that incase we made a mistake, we can be sure of not to making it again.

  1. The test has easy questions (of fewer marks!)Coming first and difficult questions (more marks!) coming later in the test. So if it?s Questions 2 of a section and if it is taking long to solve it ?.u is on wrong track. But if question # 25 looked easy to you. You might have solved it correctly or you mit have made a mistake.

In nutshell I found the Math sections nice & plausible. But the English section took more time. The best part is it is a paper based since I believe in revising my test.

In India we plan to take IIT-JEE and those tough tests ?SAT-I is an easier job in that comparison. But yes since it?s easy for all taking the SAT, be sure to do well. All the best to all! Have faith in yourself.
