Well friends, I passed Xth standard a couple of years ago with 89.5 %. Now although some might think that is very successful trust me, I still couldn?t get into the college of my choice. Anyway if you are in S.S.C. board I have some tips which might be useful for you??

1) First and foremost, the SSC board syllabus isn?t difficult. And the papers are even easier. So trust me even an average student can get good marks. As one of my teachers used to say ?SSC isn?t an exam of testing your intelligence but is an exam of tyaag and koshish?. So all you need to do well is work hard and revise about a dozen times.

2) It is not necessary to join a coaching class but it doesn?t hurt to. I would suggest that if you are someone like me, who has a low willpower to bring yourself to sit and study you better join a good coaching class. I can safely say that as far as Bombay suburbs go, MAHESH TUTORIALS is the undisputed best.[DO not go to CHATE and waste your time and money!!!] But if you?ve always been an above average student, then trust me don?t waste your time and money in one. Join a good test series just to motivate you and that should be enough. Coz there is nothing in the SSC syllabus that you are not going to understand! It just boils down to how many times you study it.

3) One mistake a lot of people, especially those who are going to study science do is ignoring languages and social studies. IMHO social studies is the most scoring subject. Ok, geography is a bit long but hey, its do able! I suggest leaving out topics like minerals and natural resources for options. Remember all languages count in 10th; this is not 12th where you can ride on the power of PCM or PCB. Don?t bother time writing for SS but write a lot of papers for subjects like Marathi where time management is important.

4) For maths remember that out of 75, 60 marks are straight from the textbook without even figures changed. So before u start doing outside sums for group D make sure you can do every single sum from ur books. For group D, try to get your hands on a book or guide of the older syllabus, pre 1994, coz most of the sums come from there. Remember that time management is also very important for geometry.

5) Till around end of December, I guess you should have finished studying every topic once at least. Generally all the prelims end by the end of January. So that means you have almost 40 days till your exams begin. In these 40 days I would suggest that you write at least 25 mock papers. Do more of the subjects which you are weak in and vice versa. Last two weeks you should be in a position where you can study an entire subject in 24 hours. Revise a subject in a day at least twice before the exams.

6) Remember to carefully go through the board papers for the earlier years. There are a lot of repeated questions and in some subjects like history it is almost possible to predict the papers.

7) On the day of the exams I would recommend that instead of studying everything, one should just do the questions at the back of the book and all the board papers from the previous years. For algebra and geometry just solve all textbook problems and revise all theorems and properties. That should be good enough.

8) Also remember to do what your teachers have told you about the way to write the paper. The paper correctors are generally very stupid people who will never think out of the box. So follow there whims to a T. Underline important points as you can be sure that no one is going to read your paper completely. Be careful with the bar code sticker?s etc. Make sure your answers are to the point and write valid reasons everywhere, however stupid it might seem, for maths.

Well those were some of my experiences. I do not deny that there may be even better ways to study, so to each his own! The important thing is to get rid of the psychological effect of the boards and treat it like just any other exams. And anyone thinking that 10th is tough, just wait till you come to 12th! Best of luck to all of you!
