Bitten, by the technology bug, and well, the sadness of not being able to catch any 3D feature till now, made me go for this new animation flick from Dream-works- "How To Train Your Dragon". A handsome 8+ rating @ IMDB and some extreme praises from critics all over, I was almost destined to watch this, me being an Animation frantic, and a true movie lover @ heart...

PS - Just a note for the guys @ Urvashi theater Bangalore, oh please get some fans or some ventilation out there, I was sweating like a pig...

On a rain clad Saturday evening, stuffed to the imaginary appetite brim, and anticipating a great experience, we stroll into the theater.. Ta-Dah... PooF, no one there..Hardly any animation movie lovers left I guess. The movie starts with some instructions on the 3D experience, usage of glasses and Ahem, the fines if you somehow happen to crack open one of 'em!!

Plot -Hiccup, is the son of the brave Viking King, and a wannabe Dragon hunter. He tries his best to hunt down a dragon to prove his worth as a future-Dragon-killer. When he, with the help of his new invention, happens to injure a dragon, (which he names Toothless) he isn't able to kill him, because he felt that the Dragon was as scared of him, as he was. His association with him makes him realize that Dragons are not the killing machines they always thought they were. Will Hiccup be able to bring about a change? will Dragons and Vikings be able to patch things up?Watch "How To Train Your Dragon" to find out.

Animation -Amazing, as with any other Dream-works creation, animation standards were above par, and it was a treat. The sound effects, the eye for details, the carefully crafted characters, were all great. The 3D experience, as it is, was superb. Even though, the theater wasn't as impressive as the IMax's with the quality, we were able to enjoy the 3D effects unperturbed..

Some of the Best Scenes -

  • The scene where Hiccup and Toothless takes his girl-friend for a spin. amazing, especially the sky-drops.

  • The scenes especially the ones with the water, the bubbles and the fire-particles were exceptional.

  • The funny scene where the little dragons try to steal fish from toothless and hiccup.

  • All the interactions between Hiccup and Toothless.

  • All scenes with the water close-ups and the ships floating.

Verdict -A very intriguing script, spun together into a web of adorable characters. This was a very fulfilling and fun watch. And, no its not just for the kids. We should be way past that cliche I think. A complete movie experience, of course if you are game for it. A few of the complaining lot would probably find a lot of faults, but well who isn't flawed. I loved it, and would recommend it for a nice, calming and enjoyable evening.

If you have kids, they'll love it, and if you don't you'll love it as well. Go check it out.
