Help & Support:

When we moved to our new apartment, we were allowed to have a free standing dishwasher. We wanted a General Electric one, and looked at a number of stores. Our daughter told us where she gets her appliances, because she buys used ones. She told us that some times they do sell new items, at a low price. We drove across town to go to see if they had any new dishwashers. They did have a few, and one was a General Electric, so we bought it, and arranged to have it delivered to the new apartment the day before our move.

We were told that if we paid them $800.00 CAD, they would keep the dishwasher at the back of their store, for two weeks, and deliver it for free.

I was so excited, because I hadn't had a dishwasher for five years, (since we moved to Victoria from Edmonton). The dishwasher I had in Edmonton, was a G.E. built in, and was 15 years old.

The delivery truck arrived and two men rolled in our new dishwasher. It wasn't the G.E. one we bought, but a more expensive Hotpoint, (DWF34S) one. One of the men who delivered the dishwasher was the owner of the store.

He told us, that he came to deliver the dishwasher, to explain why we were getting a Hotpoint. It seems that the G.E. dishwasher got damaged and they didn't have another one. He hoped we weren't too upset, and he wasn't going to charge us the extra $250.00 CAD. for it.

It did come with an instruction booklet, but we didn't have to read it, because he showed us how to use it.

The first thing he did was check our tap, and he had to put something up it. He warned us never to take it out. Then he showed us that at the back of the dishwasher there was a place that the electric plug was stored and the place were the hose came out of.

I have to tell you that I have only had two other dishwashers and before I put them in it, I rinsed every thing off the plate, cutlery, glasses and pans. He told us that we were never to do that. We were to scrape off the food, and put the dirty things into the dishwasher.

When I told him I didn't think I could do that, he told me if I didn't my dishwasher wouldn't work very well.

Today the dishwasher are programmed to wash harder, when there is food on the things in them.

My Dishwasher

My dishwasher is white, and all of the controls are in the front of it. I can select how hot I want the water to be, from 5 settings. I open the drop down door to put in my dishes, etc. It has two plastic shelves. I use the top one for cups, glasses, small plates and bowls.

On the bottom at the front, in the centre is a cutlery basket. On each side is a place to put larger dishes, platters, bowls and pots and pans.

Because there is only two of us, I only have to use the dishwasher once a week. You would think that when things have been sitting that long with yucky things on it, the dishwasher wouldn't clean everything. But it does!

The water is so hot if I had a baby, I could sterilize the baby bottles in it. I have sterilized the jars, that I use to make dill pickles, jams and jellies in.

When we are ready to use the dishwasher we roll it up to the sink. My husband screws in the hose to the water tap, and plugs it in to an electric plug.

The last time I used a dishwasher, I had to pour in the soap. With our dishwasher we receive a 15 small packages, (small squares), that have Cascade, (the detergent), on one side and Dawn on the other side, (this gets the grease off). There is a place on the back of the door, to put it in.

Once I've put it the packet, I close the door, by sliding it from left to right, set it to the temperature I want and turn it on.

One hour later it is finished the washing. There are no streaks on the glasses or cutlery. I always had a problem with these things, with my other two dishwashers.

In Addition To What I've Told You This Washer Includes

600mm,(W), 850mm,(H), 600mm,(D), a time display, a 19 hour time delay, residual drying, a hidden heat element and a folding plate rack.

Did You Know

In addition to serializing baby bottles, and jars you can bake a salmon in your dishwasher! The dishwasher can even have dishes in it to do this. What you do is double wrap your salmon in aluminum foil, and put it on the upper rack. When the dishes are done so is the salmon.

The salmon will look so red that you might think it is still raw. Trust me it's cooked to perfection.

My Final Thoughts

It does make a bit of noise, but not enough to bother us when we are watching TV, in the next room.

My cousin has the same dishwasher, but she had room to put it into a lower kitchen cupboard, and have the attachments at the back come up near her sink.

I love my Hotpoint Dishwasher and if you are looking for a new one, I hope you will take a look at this one.

It can be bought on amazon.co.uk for £339.00.
