My review based on my recent trip to Shimla and my stay at Hotel Kapil.
Shimla is famous for it's scenic beauty and hospitality. My visit(1D/1N) was equally enjoyable. With January temperatures freezing to -7 deg when we visited, the hotel was the cleanest and coziest as I found on it's reviews. Booked through MakeMyTrip and got a good deal compared to the prices offered on the hotel website/over the call booking @ hotel.
Hotel is located at a fair distance from The Mall road however is convenient as the Hotel provides complimentary drop uphill which saves you some energy to walk/enjoy the mall road. Made an inquiry a week ahead of our visit and hotel staff was reluctant to assure they could offer me my two rooms right besides because the size of the property is small and number of rooms limited. Initially I had planned to book onsite after accessing the hotel/rooms, however looking at the discounts offered online, I took the risk and made the bookings for 2 rooms(4 adults & 1 kid). Kid was charged extra @ INR 300, the option for which wasn't available online but after several email exchanges, the hotel staff assured it can be paid in cash upon my visit. Booked 2 Super Deluxe Rooms and informed hotel well in advance. Called up again in the morning of my visit and requested to ensure the rooms are clean/ready and provided close to each other as we arrive.
We went straight to Kufri as hotel assured the rest. Shimla had received 4 cm of snow just the day before our arrival however to our disappointment Kufri was under a severe dry spell with not even a bit of chill. We returned the moment we arrived in Kufri(We were initially planning to book the Kufri resort expecting snowfall looking at minus temperatures. Glad we did not!)
Reached hotel @ 3 PM - Thanks to team Kapil, our rooms were ready and within 5 min of paperwork we were relaxing in our sun-facing cozy rooms. Hotel has an authorized parking nearby however be assured it's on OWNER'S RISK as I got a long scratch on my car's right rear door(possibly by one of their guests or their own staff)!
Hotel offered complimentary green tea with cookies upon arrival. Went walking/shopping @ the Mall Road @ 5pm. Was quite impressed with the Hotel's tiny well-maintained Tata Nano car which dropped the 5 of us off-uphill from where we started our enjoyable Mall Road visit. It was a non-weekend and it wasn't overcrowded. Returned @ 7:30 as was excited to try the Hotel food after reading all positive reviews about it.
Ordered dinner @ 9:30pm and was served by 10 PM hot and tasty. Slightly over-priced considering the 5% tax on each item. 4.8/5 to the food, quality & service.
Rooms were very clean, well designed with clean linens. Heat convectors were available at an extra price however did not require any as the hot electric blanket was warm enough and had to be turned off 1 hour later plus there are some negative effects to heat convectors.
Attached toilets were tidy and had 24-hr hot water. 4.9/5 to the rooms.
Hotel location is OK. Next to Jas Radisson hotel however parking is a problem(almost everywhere in Shimla). 4/5 to this.
Staff is courteous and hospitality is great. 4.5/5
Overall 4 out of 5 stars. Kudos - Keep it up Team Kapil!
Room Tip: 114, 115 Super Deluxe rooms had afternoon sunlight. Very cozy for winters!
