I remember a few years back on a trip to Chitradurga, (a fort city 200 kms from Bangalore) my friends and I were eating Dosas at this particular hotel... We somehow found the place very old and decrypt type… In fact there was even a wooden staircase leading upstairs.. One of my friend commented that it was a real ramshackled building and might fall down anytime. One another commented that he didn’t like the dosa… because he had tasted better dosas in his life... The proprietor of the shop pointed to a photo and said “If Indira Gandhi can eat here and like the food and place, why can’t you?” I have maintained the same atmosphere too..Yes, she had made a historic visit to the place and visited this hotel for food.. There were photos at the counter..

The owner had not even bothered to keep in times and wanted to retain the looks and taste of the historic visit... He also meant that what we served the “royalty” is what you get... Be happy... It speaks volumes for this guy’s thinking. Yes, most of us would do the same, but also try to update with the times.

In retrospect, that’s what we all do. We would like to “treasure” a particular moment in our lives due to its importance. We would like it to be a constant throughout our lives based on that important event. We resist change most often for that single memory. It might be a chance meeting with our first crush (Can anyone ever forget that?). Or our first job, first visit to a place.. We treasure it for innumerable reasons, our brief moments of celebrity hood or…

Coming to the point - I am recommending a few places around Bangalore for the food… Keeping in mind simplicity, great food and an economical price, here are a few must visit places you can visit in Bangalore. Also I have mentioned atleast one dish the restaurant is famous for..You can N-joi them some time when you are in the area…

If you are a rice lover and would love the best chick “en” then try

Hotel Navayuga, Majestic – Hats off to this place. Firstly because its centrally located in Bangalore. The number of visitors to this place are the highest due to it’s location to the Bus Terminus. If you like chicken, then you should try this one dish from this place. Typical Andhra style Gongura Chicken. Try it any Sunday between 11:00 to 1:00 PM. (It’s sold out by two) And it’s cheap, not a overpriced stuffed place like Nandhini... (Nandhini’s is good with booze, but it tastes bad without it)

Hallimane and the Davanagere dosa eat out (Malleswaram Circle and a few more places) Are you fasting for the day? Looking for some vegetarian snacks? If you prefer to eat vegetarian snacks any day, especially if you are fasting that day then try Hallimane and the Davanagere shop. Both serve vegetarian food Karnataka style. (Malleswaram Circle) And the dosa at Anand’s. Sumptuous.. Try 50:50 – a combination of two different dosas or if you wish to stick to plain ole masala dosa, try Davanagere Bene (butter) dosa.

If you prefer Italian “Pasta” food with a good slice of that sumptuous ‘marbel’ cake, then try Casa Piccola on Cunningham’s.. It’s the cheapest compared to the other “mafia” places. Also you would be visiting it for the Italian cuisine which was the in thing back in the 90’s. Believe me, it is very much a part of Bangalore history too, just like the Coffee shop on M.G.Road. Service is ok. And it is cheap at the price..Cheaper than the Indian Joints. So if your taste buds are itching for a change... (within 500 for 2 persons..)

Ever been to the Rice bowl for the Chinese or continental dishes? Do you feel that they lack variety? Would you wish they served those Thai dishes or South East Asian (Not the Thai noodles) flavors without it being too bland? Or would you like to taste some of those yummy soups? Well, then you have the Chung’s another eatery based on Chinese/Thai cuisine. Chungs is known for their soups too..And there are quite a few of them..M.G’s and Malleswaram. It’s the same price, slightly cheaper I think, but might be costlier than those standin’ pushcarts.

Somehow, I am trying to avoid the places in and around Koramangala, airport road and others, the reason being they are highly overpriced.. Hmmm…

As my favorite remains the chicken.. I’ll elaborate more on the chicken items..

There’s Fanoos famous for its rolls. Fanoos is also famous for a lot of things, (Check out the review - https://hinduonnet.com/thehindu/mp/2006/01/07/stories/2006010702670300.htm The photo attached is that of the owner/propreitor) (Grill chicken, Shorma, Jumbo Rolls), but believe me, its rolls are simply mouthwatering. (Located near Johnson market, Hosur road) The best dish here would be sheek kabab rolls (That’s beef. There are similar offerings in chicken and mutton)

Siddiqui’s is on the way to Ulsoor from Nandidurga road is pretty famous for the Kebabs.. In Bangalore there are umpteen places famous for Kebabs.. But I am recommending it to be tried at this joint at least once. It's wise to pack it for home..

Then you would have heard of the Kebab Magic joints.. It looks like there are quite a few places on the South side of Bangalore mostly. Their Andar Bahar is a specialty dish, it’s pretty yummy…

Hmm.. Nandhini's? It's known only for the Mutton Kheema Balls... (Lamb)

Other eatouts worth a Dekko are Koshy's Retaurant And Jewel Box on St Marks road. Actually it is quite famous for a lot of reasons, but is still expensive..

One thing Bangalore lacks is a decent Biriyani place.. There's nothing to beat the Hyderabadi Biriyani....

These are the ones I feel based on my experiences.. If you find any which are worth mentioning for cheap economical and has atleast one dish it is famous for, let me know..

RUMBLEGRUMBLE* THROW IN THE TOWELGROWL

Anyways, you heard that too? That's my stomach...
