I purchased CB Unicorn on 14th June 2010. I am not writing a detailed review about the quality of engine or bike here. In fact, I read all the goods and bads about Unicorn in Mouthshut and got impressed with to purchase this bike. After purchasing the bike, I am really enjoying the quality of ride that the bike gives. Really have no complaints about that.

What I wanted to write here is about the way the customer is getting hyped with media comments and the way, Honda is taking their customers comments (So negligently ) and how mean is their thinking about the intelligence of their customers

I have read lot of comments about Old Unicorn (Spoke wheel model) not having Handlebar weights like that of PULSAR or other bikes. I thought probably, after seeing somany comments and posts, Honda would have realised their shortcoming and to overcome their shortcoming and TO INCREASE THE STABILITY OF THE BIKE HANDLING, they would have added the handlebar weights to new model of unicorn. But, to know the reality, read the lines below:

I am riding this bike since 15 days. Yesterday, it was raining heavily in Bangalore while I was riding this bike. I wanted to park the bike and take shelter to avoid rain. I stopped the bike and got down to rush to the shelter near some shop. Assuming that I had put the side stand, I tried to park the bike on its side stand.

But, I HAD JUST FORGOTTEN TO PUT THE SIDE STAND :(. So, as a result, the bike just lied down (without any support of side stand) and the handlebar weight (LEft side) and mirror got in touch with Ground(PLEASE NOTE, Bike DID NOT FALL with force. IT JUST LIED DOWN ). I COULD NOT CONTROL AND LIFT THE BIKE TO AVOID IT FROM LYING DOWN BECAUSE OF WET HANDS AND HEAVY RAINS.

Then, as a result of Bike lying down on ground, I could see mirror got tilted(Glass did not break)and a crack generated on Handle bar weight. This was a surprise to me since I was under the impression that these weights would be of metal and how can a metal piece generate a crack if the bike weight is put on it. . I have seen Handle bar weights of Pulsar. They weigh minimum of 150-200 grams each and they are metallic cylinders(NOT SHALLOW) with a screw used to fasten it to the handlebar. Even when the bike falls with full force and smashes these weights, nothing happens to these weights

Since there was a crack on the weight, I just tried to remove that by tweaking with hands(NO SPANNERS, OR SCREW DRIVERS USED TO REMOVE SCREWS etc)

Honda Unicorn Weights, just came out without effort. TO MY SURPRISE, IT WAS JUST A PIECE OF SHALLOW PLASTIC PIECE STUCK INSIDE THE OF HANDLEBAR END WITHOUT EVEN SCREWS OR NUT AND BOLTS USED TO FASTEN. IT WAS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT( MAY BE some 10-15 grams)

I tried to remove right hand weights WHICH WAS ABSOLUTELY FINE AND NEW. SAME IS THE CASE THERE AS WELL. These are not weights at all ! ! JUST PIECE OF PLASTICS WEIGHING 10 GRAMS each THAT GIVES AN IMPRESSION TO OWNERS THAT THEY ARE WEIGHTS GIVING RIDING STABILITY TO 146 KG BIKE ! !

Honda thinks that the customers are cheatable so easily by adding two additional plastic pieces !!

AND MOST OF THE MAGAZINES AND REVIEWS TALK ABOUT THIS ADDITION OF WEIGHTS TO HANDLEBAR AND SAYS THESE WEIGHTS HAVE INCREASED THE STABILITY. IS THIS REALLY TRUE ? OR JUST A HYPE ? OR PSCHYCHOLOGICAL FEELING?

Really need to reaffirm the accuracy of reports from various bodies ! ! IS HONDA WATCHING THIS SPACE ? IF SO, my request is, Please dont think that your customers are idiots to believe what ever you say. Please do real quality work on each and every part. WE ARE NOT PAYING 71000 FORJUST ENGINE. THE MONEY IS FOR THE ENTIRE BIKE AND EXPECT EACH AND EVERY PART TO BE OF HONDA ENGINE QUALITY

Note to Mouthshut.com readers: I am not employee of pulsar or yamaha or any other bike company and this is not a post to criticize competition company. If any of you have any doubts of genuinity of this post, please check the handlebar weights of your UNICORN BIKE and post replies here. To remove the weights, just twist them to right and left and pull out.. You will have a hollow piece of plastic in your hands ! !
