First 5555 kms... Review on Honda Unicorn 150 cc

I bought Honda CB Unicorn Black on 29th Jan 2012.I was frequently reviewing MS since 1 year.

I have done lots of RnD on bikes since 1 year(This is my nature before buying any bike). Friends I have 20 years of experience of driving the bikes.

RnD includes MS Review, friend’s reviews, practically road companion having bikes review etc…

I have started my passion to drive the bikes since 1992. Following are the vehicles which I have driven in chronicle order.

Luna, TVS TFR, Bajaj M80, TVS Scooty, Bajaj Super, HH Splendor, Yamaha RX 100, Activa, Pulsar 150 and now Unicorn.

Luna to Bajaj Super duration 8 yrs – Learning period and no other options at that time.

Yamaha RX - 2 yrs but got stolen and still missing that machine.:-(

HH Splendor till 2005 – Fantastic and Legend.

Pulsar DTSI 150cc:-

Pulsar…. I loved this bike.I have driven this beast almost 80k kms…but friends I don’t have any complaint for pulsar…truly amazing bike…zero maintenance…speedy beast.great pickup, reaches 100 km in few seconds…please don’t ask for mileage :) at 100 km/hr….Regularly I am riding this bike 70 kms for office in a day…so since 6 years I was riding pulsar.I have never face any breakdown or any mechanical defects which has restricted my daily travel…I have full trust on pulsar and always it will remain intact.But, there is something missing in pulsar…answer is Honda CB Unicorn:) .

If something is missing and done lots of RnD before purchasing Pulsar…Now guys you got some questions why I didn’t bought CB Unicorn at 2005 right?.Yes, this question also raised after when I bought Unicorn …:)

But Unicorn answered my question that you missed following things in Pulsar dear…

1 Comfort

2 Balance

3 Sharp turns

4 Smooooooooooth Engine.etc

Friends, If you bought any NEW bike you will get Smooth Engine but after use it will not remain smooth…but this is not case of Unicorn.I have many friends who are driving Unicorn since 3-4 years but still all unicorns are smooth…even my other friend who also bought Unicorn at the same time when I got pulsar…but story are different J.His bike is still having above 4 points which I have mentioned

Honda CB Unicorn:-

Honda Unicorn is a motorcycle developed by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India(HMSI) and introduced in 2005. It was the first motorcycle in India to feature a mono-shock. Engine producing a torque of 12.8 Nm at a relatively low 5500 RPM for better fuel economy.

Currently I am getting 40 to 44 km/ltrs of mileage because first service is due.

My suggestions:-

1 Till 2000 kms don’t accelerate your new bike beyond 50 kms/hr .

2 Every 2000 kms get engine oil changed and every 3000 kms get serviced your bike.

3 Operate your bike single handedly(Don’t give your bike to others to ride regularly).

4 Don’t over race or accelerate on down gears, 1 gear 0-10, 2 gear 10-20, 3 gear 30-40, 4 gear 40 – 60 and Top gear.

5 Don’t clutch frequently, If you want to change the gears then clutch it.This will increase the mileage.

Ok Guys…I m singing off due to lack of the time.but will return soon to next review of unicorn after 1st service…Questions or Doubt are welcome I will try my level best to answer it.

Drive safe.dont like me(100 Kms/hr) not recommended.thats why Im getting lower mileage with any of my bike in my life.so If you want good mileage then drive below 60.

SAD DAY.Surprisingly Handel got JAMMED today.I nearly face Accident today due to that.quickly planning to go at Honda Service Center.Guys plz suggest any idea or experience regarding this.TROUBLED:(

Hello friends, sorry for the late comment regarding Handle Jam issue.Issue has been resolved at that day after changing the balls from the handle with new Balls by service center.now feeling easy ride and enjoying this bike maximum.I love to it. wonderful bike.clocked 1700 kms so far. After 1K kms I have crossed 4k RPM. Currently running my bike at 6k RPM. Enjoying the speed.before 1K kms its given me 54 kms/ltr and currently giving 47 kms/ltr at 6k RPM not bad.wonderful bike.waiting for second service at 2500kms.drive safe.cheers:)

Hello frnds.After 1900 kms .I can rate Unicorn differently than earlier .

Advantages:-

1. Comfort :- You can drive constantly 2 hours without any body pain issue.

   
   




2. Control:- Turning at speed or balancing is outstanding.

   
   




3. Mileage - If you doesnt raise the RPM funda above 60 then this bike will give you 50+ else you know:)

   
   




4. Power:- Amazing power whatever speed it is generate superb torque at any speed.

   
   

Areas where Honda can Improve more:-

1. Brakes:- Sorry guys, I think my bike might be a problem in both brakes.but not satisfied like Pulsar.

   
   




2. Mirrors - At the end corner of the mirrors its more narrow. I don't know what is the logic behind this?

   
   




3. Lights(Tail) :- Not up to the mark.transparency of the plastic is getting dull as time pass.poor quality of plastic used in tail light.need to improve.

   
   




4. Cold Start:- Every morning need to raise the Chock to warm up the engine. I don't why? Is there any benefit in Automobiles Engineering then please let me know.Logically If you raise 20-25 secs Chock liver everyday more fuel unnecessarily burnt.please guys give me some logical suggestion in this

   
   

How cold start is benefited?.

Overall the Positive points are winning point of the Unicorn because Negatives doesn't make any vast difference in Unicorn's Image or Performance.but If these area improved then no one can beat Unicorn in future:)
