At last, my wait ended and I got my unicorn on 2nd of June (with self start). Till date, I have driven around 3200+ kilometers. In my first run which was driving in the economy zone, it gave me an mileage of around 54-55. I had driven not more than 50 KMPH speed for the first 950 kilometers. Then in the next run, I did some power biking, i.e. riding at speeds ranging from 60 to 100 KMPH, and the mileage dropped drastically to 41-42 KMPL.

Right from the start since I have purchased the bike, I am facing the problem with the gears. It was never smooth. I reported this on the 1st service, but problem was not solved, second time I reported the same problem (i.e. before the 2nd service date) but they still didn't solved the problem.

I am facing the problem while shifting from 3rd gear to 2nd gear.

Here is the test case :-

Ride the bike and reach around 50 - 60 KMPH speed at 5th gear, then pull the clutch and halt the bike completely. Remember now still you are in the 5th gear. Now without releasing the clutch, shift the gears down to neutral. Here was the case when I was facing the problem. The gear always used to stuck up while shifting from 3rd gear to 2nd gear. In my case, the gears were not at all smooth right from the start. Going higher gear is not a problem, but coming down to lower one is the problem.

I have given my bike for 2nd service, and this time after the service, the service guy took a test ride and told me that the bike is okay. Then I requested him to ride along with me, and then I showed him where the problem is.

They told that I will have to keep the bike for 2 more days as they sense a problem with the gear box. Now if the gearbox is to be inspected, they will have to open up the engine, which is not good for a new bike as one never gets the same company assembly.

Another major -ve is the seat. The seats are not at all comfortable, and will give you the pain in the back in longer distances. I ride around minimum 50 kms daily (except on weekends).

80% of my riding is on highways.

I will get my bike back on 30th August 2005, let see if they are successful enough to solve the problem.

Actually I am planning to buy a new bike. Initially I thought of buying a Honda Unicorn. But recently I have heard that the bike has some technical problems due to which the company has halted the current production for a while and that?s the reason of a long waiting list since there is demand and no supply. The problems I heard were, low mileage (not more than 40 in city) and the other one was that vehicles shakes at higher speeds, and shock absorbers are not good enough to tackle Indian roads and give a bumpy ride.

People who own a Honda Unicorn, will be a better person to ask for, since all I heard could be rumors or mis-information. Are any of the above things true ? For those who own it, how is your experience and approx how many kilometers have you driven it till now.

My Queries :-

1) What is the mileage in city and on highways ? Company claims 60, is it anywhere near that ?

2) How is mono suspension ? Does it gives bumpy rides ?

3) Does the vehicle shakes at higher speeds ?

4) Is it having any kind of problems which I have heard of ?

My daily ride will be around 40 ? 45 kilometers. Your help in providing this information will be appreciated.

If not Unicorn, which will be a ideal bike to go for. I don't want to go for the New Pulsar, since those who have taken it, say that the bike is costly to maintain, and requires service even after initial six months.
